Has anyone’s mental health here taking a battering since this pandemic? Thought I’d never have it in my life but struggled massively the past 14 months. Friends don’t really talk when i try to tell them I’ve been struggling. I’ve gotten help from the doctors but every few days i feel down

Has anyone coped okay?

It's been tough, hasn't it? I'm glad you've got help from the doctor. Maybe look into coping mechanisms to help you rebuild

Yeah it has been really tough

Well during the pandemic I got diagnosed with mild autism severe ADHD and I have BPD

I was trapped and couldn’t get away and take my mind off of the issues as I was stuck inside

Hope you are all ok, feel free to message if you’re struggling I’ll always help the best I can

Mine has been better and worse, sometimes in the same day. Bit of a rollercoaster at times.

I have coped pretty well but know lots of friends and colleagues who have struggled.

Talking to someone really does help and getting a healthy realistic routine for self care.

My depression has been awful through lockdown. Random bouts of tears and/or anger. Thankfully being able to start seeing friends and family again now has really helped. My depression will always be a problem, but hopefully not as bad as that again

It’s great that you have sought help, it’s been a tough old time. Despite medical intervention, you need to talk and I hope your GP has signposted some sources for additional support.

Yep a lot.

I'm on the asbergers scale and so messing with my routines which ive done for 30 odd years has proved difficult.

1 minute people are saying be kind next they're shouting at you in supermarkets. Strange times

Like going through Spaghetti Junction on a dodgy unicycle.

On the one hand, everything being closed means no need to make excuses for why I haedly ever go out. On the other hand, I've missed working with other people and doing the few things I enjoy outside the house, so the loneliness has been worse.

Newry Down

I think everyone has, to a greater or lesser extent; the disruption to everyone's lives has been unprecedented.

My own normal routine has been massively disrupted, but I got word this morning that one venue is permitting admission on a trial basis.

I have gained weight, but I don't drink alcohol because of a history of alcoholism in the family.

I avoid all medication whenever possible and use an exercise regime, outside, to elevate my mood.

Thankfully, I have never had any mental health problems, particularly depression, but the lockdowns have occasionally left me feeling anhedonic.

The residue of this pandemic, in terms of mental health, will be pervasive, long lasting and in some permanently damaging.

It has been an extraordinary time; and it isn't over yet; not by a long way.

Yes my depression has worsened and I had much more frequent panic attacks tho these have eased off recently. The whole change in our freedoms and that what we all took as entitlement to free movement and mixing and just being, was taken away and dictated by the Govt (as was necessary, I don't dispute that) really shattered my view of life.

And the nature of the swinging lifestyle was completely stopped, sex was fucking illegal for a long time. I couldn't be ME for so long. It's been a really tough time to stay sane

When I was 20 just beat cancer, then my body stopped working as it should, couldn’t balance, poor mobility, immune system very low, so couldn’t go out for a long time. This pandemic and the several lockdowns have been a walk in the park in comparison.

Yup, he's never suffered with his mental health but now finds himself hit by random anxiety attacks. We are sure it's lockdown related as they seemed to begin shortly after the second lockdown announcement.

I'm sorry you've had this experience. I wish it was any sort of surprise, though. People will make all the right noises about being kind and speaking out about one's mental health, but the minute they're asked to show consideration or modify their behaviour in any way, we're right back to "Get fucked, you weirdo". Ugh.

I am enormously fortunate that my particular set of idiosyncrasies and privileges have allowed me to sail through the pandemic largely unscathed.

There are, however, two things I'm struggling with:

Firstly, the total absence of physical intimacy. It's now been 453 days since I last touched another person.

Secondly, watching all the people who are acting as if the pandemic is over, going about their daily lives, and endangering all the hard work and sacrifices the rest of us have made for the greater good. It's like being back at school – being forced to work in a group, and discovering that you're the only person doing any actual work while everyone else dosses about and gets all the benefits of your efforts. You expect it from Daily Mail-obsessed morons, but it's people I know and care about who are doing it. I just feel completely betrayed.

Found myself in a place i never thought possible last year, ended up speaking to the samaratins at first then getting help from the drs and therapist, speak out if anyone is struggling, bottling up emotions just didn’t work for me and probably doesn’t for anyone, i’m on a brighter path now thanks to help i got.

Dave has been suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks for over 15years . At first He did not do nothing about it , it got worse and worse . When he started talking about it with his wife , started eating healthy and gave up smoking and drinking things started to get better . But Dave said the thing that helped him the most was just talking about it to others .

Please don’t hide away with it get help and slowly things will get better .
