Recurring nightmare... Analysis needed please!

So I have two recurring nightmares... I'm curious what you think they might mean?!

1. I'm trying to run away from something terrifying and my legs won't let me move. It's like they're moving in slow mo, so I can't get away.

2. I'm in my car, usually in a car park and I go to drive off slowly but suddenly the car accelerates fast instead and my brakes do nothing so I go crashing into whatever is in front of me.

Last night I had nightmare 2. But this time, after I crashed there was a man stood watching it all who seemed to care and offered to come to my aid. As soon as I reached out my hands towards him though his face turned nasty (like a demon) and he sprinted towards me to hurt me and that's when I woke up.

What do you think they mean? I have them both regularly, though the man last night was a new arrival. I wake up shaken every time!

local, but not too local

A technique I was taught is to imagine an ending for the dream beforehand. It doesn’t t need to make sense. Think about it before you go to bed.

Your brain is stuck because it can’t see the way out, give it a solution.

1) is anxiety, 2) is a perceived lack of control over your life.

Please don't think I'm being rude in asking this, but do you drink alcohol often?

Interesting... I shall ponder this

Not really, usually a few glasses of prosecco on the weekend. Why?

Ah that's cool. The reason I asked is because I went through a period of drinking quite heavily after a bereavement many years ago. I had some really bizarre, vivid dreams during that period and I can relate to the first dream you mentioned about not being able to move. That happened often during that period.

I’d agree with this.

Recurring dreams are usually a reaction to something that you’re not dealing with or resolving. I’ve heard that journaling can help to find the root cause of the issue and help to find closure

Could it have been the trauma of the bereavement rather than the alcohol perhaps?

The first one means that you should remove everyone from your Friends list who isn't shorter than you, older than you and bald.

The second one means that you really need to play with anyone remaining on your list whose name begins with C.

Hope that's helpful...

I used to have a reoccurring dream for about 3 years where at some point of the dream I’d have a shit but it wouldn’t stop. I could be doing anything in my dream, in a meadow or riding a horse but then I’d be on a toilet and it would all feel very real and it would be one of those comfy poos that you know would give a clean snap off but it would just keep coming like one big continuous log. My sister was doing her degree at the time in psychology and asked one of her tutors to explain and they said poop dreams have quite literal meanings and depending on the situation, being shit on, stepping in it, in my case having one, meant I was trying to get rid of the shit in my real world.

The fact that it happened for 3 years whilst I was going through the court process with my ex and his family was quite fitting, I was trying to get rid of them all. I won the case back in 2019 and haven’t had a poop dream since!

Quite possibly. It was just a bit weird that they stopped as soon as I got a grip and stopped drinking. I guess the brain works in mysterious ways.

Well, aside from giving me an image in my mind that I'm not sure I'll ever get rid of now, I'm glad you haven't had the dream since and that you won your case

But perhaps you stopped drinking BECAUSE your mind had processed the trauma? Hard to say I guess, it just seems to me that the trauma would be a more likely cause.

I think lots of women would think it was their worst nightmare to hear to say that to them.

That’s amazing!!! It can be that literal!! I’m astonished. I must admit.

Might the person trying to help be just that but you’re demonising him because you feel you don’t need it?

Not sure if you've seen this or any of it makes sense: https://journeyintodreams.com/car-accident-dream-meaning/#:~:text=To%20wreck%20a%20car%20in,of%20control%20in%20your%20life.&text=In%20a%20dream%2C%20a%20car,is%20about%20to%20change%20drastically. There's some dream interpretation stuff on there.

The problem with trying to analyse dreams is that often they can be way off the mark from the most logical connection. And of course they are interpretations, not actual fact that they mean anything. And for a true dissection and analysis more details are needed. Location, other people, time of day, weather, any and all small details can go towards explaining what it "means" and can drastically change what may be a dream about fear in to one about happiness.

Having sex in a dream for example is very rarely about the act of sex itself but who it is with.

One interpretation of sex in dreams can mean you desire to have a quality or skill that person is in possession of.

Well I didn't have sex in my dream, the appearance of this man is unusual and he offered to help me but then turned nasty. I don't know whether that means I expect all offers of help/kindness to eventually turn sour. Or whether, as said above, I demonise people who try to help me. It's just interesting, or at least it is now I'm fully awake. At the time it's always very scary.

Sorry, I was only using the sex situation as an example of how one thing in a dream can mean something that you would never be obviously connected, especially without knowing smaller and often subtle details about the dream.

The man may not even represent a person or people, he may represent a situation, or a location, an activity maybe even a period of time.

The Town by The Cross

Dream 1.

You are wading in treacle. Something is holding you back. It could be that you are ready to move on but just haven't put your ideas into practise yet. Your dream is telling you unburden yourself of your mundane routine and make a move to improve your present. It doesn't mean HUGE change. Just stop doing certain things because you are on a hamster wheel. Make some small changes. Get rid of or stop doing unnecessary things and make way for the new in your life.

Dream 2. Is 100% related to dream 1. You are attempting to move off with caution but taking your foot off the pedal so to speak, taking your eye and mind off the game gives control of your life to others. You begin to move too fast to keep control and when you seek help or help is offered from another , you realise that this would be a mistake as you want to control your own destiny.

So ..... like I said. Slowly wash the treacle off your own two feet and stand on em Make the little changes you want to make and stop being hurried by others. Could be in work , family or social life. Make slow , small changes when YOU are ready or agree to only what you want to do.

I also occasionally have a dream similar to your second one. I'm in the car (sometimes my current one, sometimes a previous one), usually reversing and it starts running away and the brakes are ineffective, then I crash in to something.

The other one I have is my university dissertation is due, but I haven't started it yet. I haven't been at uni for over 10 years but this occurs frequently and I wake up in a panic every time. I think this one happens when I'm worrying about something at work.

I’ve had a recurring dream since my teens that my teeth are falling out , sometimes one or two sometimes lots and it’s horrible because it’s like I can actually feel it happening! Another one is where I’m screaming but no noise is coming out and it’s very scary

dream 1.

i'd suggest this is about general anxiety - something in your day to day life is not getting better, you are worried about it but feel somewhat powerless to move forward.

dream 2.

this sounds like anxiety again, although you are worried about a lack of control should you decide to do something about the problem.

newest version of dream 2.

you may have thought about a course of action that on the face of it offers a solution, but you are worried that if you take this path it will not be well received by those offering to help.

perhaps, maybe, possibly.

don't worry about it too much - the brain does some funny shit from time to time.

I think dreams are our subconscious trying to process everything, even the things we've picked up on without realising it.

Maybe the dreams suggest a lack of control, perhaps from which direction you take and which choices you make.

I think the addition of the man in the second one may be you trying to reach out to find someone to trust, but hesitant over whether you can or should. Or just uncertainty over a third party.
