Some of them can be quite expensive I think. Depends what you want.

"See lots of cars with private number plates are they dear to buy and any caught your eye"

The cost will depend on the combination of characters. I don't want one. Too recognisable. I want to commit a crime and get way with it.

That last bit was a joke kids. Crime doesn't pay etc etc blah blah blah disclaimer blah blah

Some are dirt cheap, some are hideously expensive.

Like most things, it's about perceived worth.

I've just bought one for £100.

I've just got to change my name by deed pole to vc47crf

Some of the rare ones are absurdly expensive.

An old colleague used to buy and sell them back in the day and did quite well financially out of it.

I always think they look tacky but you know what if someone feels better by having one then that's all good with me.

They can be. They’re just an extension of the peni or bust size and scream attention to everyone else

Newry Down

The first ever UK number plate, A1, is still registered on a UK vehicle.

You can check this by accessing the government's website that allows you to check whether a vehicle is currently taxed.

Generally the fewer the number of characters on the plate the more expensive it will be.

The A1 plate is probably worth more than the vehicle on which it is registered, a black Mini.

The most infamous plate, JS 247, that was used on Jimmy Savile's white Rolls Royce Corniche, is unsurprisingly, no longer registered to any UK vehicle.

Boston, Lincolnshire

We bought ours fairly cheaply, as it's a normal plate that just happens to start with Caroline's initials & ends with PUD (as seen in our photo 22-04-2018)

Last year on the DVLA website was BU11 followed by my initials for £399.

I didn't buy it but wish I did now.

Depends what you have. Mine was £500 but I’ve seen some that are in the thousands. I was really impressed at how crap it was to get them made and put on though. Barely £50.

Mine's the opposite - it doesn't look like a private plate, but it is. Those who know me personally know what it means.
