Can a cake ever be too dry to be saved by jam?

I've just made a Maderia cake which is somewhat, erm, robust.

I'm going to eat the bugger if it kills me, but the first three slices have been pretty hard going!

Sounds like custard or cream need to save the day.

Thinking similar, use it for a sherry trifle

East Sussex

Buy some mascarpone, mix with melted chocolate and icing sugar. There is no cake that can't be saved by this.

I would agree with the one reply and it should be eaten with either custard or cream

Stockport

Crumble it up and mix with a little butter cream and make cake pops! You can dip them in melted chocolate

...then bing it in a microwave. There's nothing that can't be eaten after this process!

Microwave it, add chocolate spread and whipped cream and you’re good to go!

The ONLY things that go with port are cheese and biscuits!! Not cake!!

A drizzle would definitely help, whether syrup, booze or a combination. Or you could just slice it thinner & sandwich with some sweet goo. Or bake again to make madeira cake biscuits.
