I went to Altrincham market last year, there was a cafe there selling sardines on toast for 9 quid. Now I'm partial to sardines but Jesus Christ. And so ends my mini rant.

Oh yes, sardines.

I can't answer as I've never eaten sardines.

But grilled mackerel is OK.

The right place

Open a tin of mackerel put some kitchen roll on top so it soaks up the oil. Set fire to the kitchen roll and it makes the top really crispy and warm.

Both plus kippers.

Boneless mackerel on toast.

Kippers in sunflower oil on toast, or straight from the tin.
