Chilled and warmed?

I’m having one of those mornings where I performed a task and it struck me that it may be peculiar to others.

I made my orange juice and instinctively reached into my freezer for the glass as I like it to remain very chilled whilst I savour it. It starts my day off on the right note (those who read my musings may, by now, be noticing that I’m rather ritualistic).

I like my dishes warmed or chilled before they’re used; chilled, including the cutlery I use for it, for my salad or warmed for my hot meals.

I warm up my Thermos before pouring hot drinks into it.....you get the idea.

Cafes do this with their warmed cups and I’ve only come across one restaurant that chills the cutlery for salad, much to my delight.

Anyone else particular about these things? I know I’m an odd one but....just wondering.

It’s not something I would do, partly as I don’t like really cold drinks, and I can’t be arsed to warm a plate, but I love the way you wrote that, it sounds like a lovely morning ritual .

I do warm my tea cup though.

Thank you. Tea does taste better from a warmed cup, doesn’t it? I’m rather religious about that ritual, as you can imagine.

It does, it’s all about the temperature to make the best cuppa, I’m very fussy about my tea

It’s worth it. Worst case scenario, without a microwave and in a rush, I’ll run them under hot water.

Quite so, especially when it’s delicate leaves. It’s why the Japanese have their tea ritual. The Chinese use the first brewing of the tea to warm the cup and then discard it to be rid of the initial ‘roasted’ taste.

This is how I know I’m common as muck coz if I got chilled fork and knife with a salad I’d be like “oi love you messing bout this knifes cold as fuck”

Doesn’t your hand get cold as you eat it?

This is why I know I’m odd and why I was so pleased to see the restaurant do it. No one else I know does this and I suddenly felt alone no longer.

Half the joy is feeling that cold fork in your hand. It gives the sensation of the salad being chilled before you even put it to your lips.

I totally agree with you OP. I warm my dinner plates before serving. I warm my espresso mugs before the pour (but also chill the coffee before subjecting it to the heat and pressure). I warm my tea cups before filling with tea. I chill wine glasses for white and ensure the red glasses aren't too cold.

I've never chilled cutlery though, I bow to your prep prowess!!

I’d pre-warm a thermos before filling, I pre-warm plates before serving hot food ( and I use a hot plate for food) I pre-warm a teapot before use but ....

Leave the cutlery out of it ..... that’s just..... no not for me. Present me with cold cutlery for salad and I’d send it back!

I like your attention to detail. Wine, especially so with the right temperature glass.

I would expect nothing less from you. The cutlery is a bit of an acquired taste, it would seem.

Oh, I forgot, I also warm my tea spoon whilst warming my cup.

Please tell me someone else does that!!!
