Ur-With-Var

Easy .

To be fair, it caught on pretty nicely centuries ago with the Welsh speaking communities in North Wales. Just needs the rest to catch up.

The many European visitors to the mountain will cope just fine .

Yr Wyddfa is ludicrously busy these days, and sadly, too many visitors (local or tourist) treat her terribly.

To be fair, its

There will be a clean up operation like they had at Everest. 11 tonnes of rubbish they collected from there! Although to be fair they had further to travel to find a bin.

There doesn’t need to be.

The last thing I want to see is litter bins on walking routes & hills, just because some can’t think to put their rubbish back in the bag they bought it in. If you don’t have a bag then shove it in your pocket.

It’s really not hard

"Are they not dropping the Mount Snowdon name in English and pronouncing it in Welsh ? "

Well it's Snowdon as opposed to Mount Snowdon.

It's always been called Yr Wyddfa in Welsh (Waaaaaayyyyy before it was called Snowdon). The park authority are thinking of just using it's real name on the signs as opposed to the newer English language name.

Same in the cities where there are green spaces and bins, they put it nicely in a sealed bag and then just leave it by the bin. You can see it’s full, pick up your bag and take it home.

If people can be bothered to take full packets of crisps, sandwiches and sweets up the hill. Then it’s inexcusable to not carry the empty wrappers back with them.

Bins just encourage more litter. It’s a ridiculous suggestion.

It was Edward the first back in 13th century that made wales a kingdom in England. When the union flag was created it was already part of England, hence no representation. Likewise it has no representation in the royal coat of arms but the other nations do. The last royal household to include wales was the Tudor’s, I believe.

People will probably complain that their freedoms are being abused if they are asked to pick up litter after themselves.

People are too soft, too “It’s someone else’s problem not mine”.

It might get me in serious trouble one day but I’ve pulled more than one person up on their littering over the years while out walking & it hasn’t done so yet, so I will continue to do it when I see it.

I don’t do it in a nice quiet polite manner either.

Worse to me though are “Bag it up but leave it” dog owners, they are just the ultimate dumbarses, do they not realise it’d biodegrade & disappear a lot faster if they just left it or kicked it to the verge?

Thats true about bins plus more littler in general. It’s no excuse but since covid so many people have discovered the countryside who were not brought up by parents who taught them about it. In the cities you’re taught to put your littler in bins not pockets.

It’s mixed messages, remember the majority of people are thick as shit and need very clear Instructions from birth. If you want to remove the city country divide either put bins in the country or remove them from cities, it’s too much thinking

Joking aside, I notice the Summit Cafe at the top sells, A selection of Hot/ Cold Take Away drinks, so probably plastic, cans, cardboard cups, also Cakes other Snacks, probably, Sweets, Crisps, Chocolate and Welsh Pasties.

So I wonder how much of the Litter from this Crap ends up tossed away on the Mountain and Paths after Consumption, maybe there are bins in the Visitor Centre but I expect the vast majority is eaten and disposed of by some individuals leaving the Summit.

"Because they are lazy inconsiderate bastards"

The litter left behind on Snowdon and other English/Scottish/Irish mountains is as nothing compared to the thousands of tons of detritus left behind on Himalayan mountains, particularly Everest:

tents, oxygen bottles, excrement, cooking equipment, clothing, boots, food packaging, water bottles and many frozen bodies of mountaineers and sherpas who have succumbed to the death zone above 8,000 metres.

Base Camp is reported to be like camping on a rubbish tip!
