Slope back is the standard set by the AKC. The European standards are sturdier. I don't know why the Kennel Club prefer the slope backed Shepherd, they do predominantly come with more issues.

I have kept GSD for years and always go for the European standard.

Only the show breed has. The working breed is still a solid powerhouse of a dog. However it has been replaced by the Belgian Malinois in the majority of roles.

Or one of them that mauls little Alfie to death then their feckless owner says it’s so out of character for Ripper the Rottweiler as he’s always been so friendly

Some believe that the dog was named Alsatian after the breed was discovered in Alsace region of Germany/French borders and bred to herd sheep.

It is widely known as a German Shepherd....Either term is acceptable

Brought to the UK by British soldiers impressed by the breeds abilities in assisting German Soldiers.

Sounds like you have more of a problem with self-righteous dog owners who can't accept criticism of their dogs than the dogs themselves. The moral superiority affected by some people who are self-declared animal lovers grates on me too.
