The age you got all your ducks in a line .....

Jump to newest

By *ememberTheName OP   Man

barnsley

So I’m coming up to 29 years of age and feel like by this age I should have really got my shit together and ducks lined up in terms of my life ....

I DON’T !

Partly not my fault partly I haven’t a fucking clue what I want ... where I want it and why I should ....

But hey I’m pressure free and lots of potential and possibilities I just need to make some choices

What year did you form an orderly queue with your ducks (life ) ?

Have you ?

Advice for someone who isn’t quite there yet ?

Just shy of 50 this year, that's how long it took.

Finally have the great job and bought my own gaff. Comfortable at last with the notion of spending the rest of my days as a singleton.

It took many, many years longer than I hoped but hey, better late than never

Probably something stupid like 21 - I bought my first house or, rather, got my first mortgage.

I guess at the time I thought things would continue to get better, but while it offered me a safe place away from some previous shit, it also came with a lot of grown up responsibilities that I didn’t really want at 21.

Looking back it was a terribly sensible thing to do, but I didn’t appreciate it at the time.

I am 29 and my ducks are far from in a line.

My career is finally beginning so that's good.

But I'm single and back home with my parents

No kids and the body clock is ticking so that ship would have sailed by the time I meet someone and settle down etc.

So naturally I thought fuck it. And came back here to get to know and reconnect with hot people ready to have great sex (once I'm happy that I no longer need to worry about covid).

Relax OP. My ducks have been in and then out of line for decades. The next step is not minding at all if your ducks are where they're supposed to be. Ease off yourself a bit.

And if you're still feeling motivated, find one or two areas of life where you feel you can put your energy.

For me, once I put my efforts into my personal inner work, everything else fell into place

Some people have there ducks in a line and are happy, some people's ducks have never been tamed and are happy, some people have there ducks in a line and are unhappy, some people's ducks are wild and they're unhappy ... lots of people say they're happy but moan lots and some people moan lots but are actually happy ... some people have there ducks in a row but decide to lob dynamite at them (occasionally for no particular reason) and self-sabotage!

Who knows about fecking ducks? very few people seem to be happy, just find what truly makes you happy and lodge there for a while. Not sure anyone knows anything about life, just participate and enjoy the ride ... noone has the answers but you!

I prefer to think of myself more as a wrangler of free range ducks!

Just when you think they are lining up, someone or something will change that. You may lose track of another couple whilst pulling that one back, but is there any harm in them doing their own thing? Are they hurting anyone?

Prioritise the duck that needs the most help at that time. Your duck wrangling career will be a long one, you will become a master of your ducks during this time, but being free range, they will always have free will!

London

Do they ever OP? My dad used to tell me not to wish my life away and I think that means live in the moment.

I'm 60 and am not living the life I thought I would but it's not a bad life.

I have all the 'stuff' I need although I would like a little more emotional stability.

Ask me again in 30 years.

Manchester (he/him)

I’m 44, just when it starts to seem that my ducks are starting to agree, shit happens.

It’s part of life that we plan, gods laugh and throw our ducks into separate ponds to start again.

Life is chaos, the control that we feel we have is an illusion. I’ve learnt now to let my ducks do what the hell they want and to embrace the situation as best I can

"

What year did you form an orderly queue with your ducks (life ) ?

Have you ?

Advice for someone who isn’t quite there yet ? "

I roasted and ate all mine.

Advice: Orange sauce.

"Some dick keeps shooting my ducks in a row."

I suppose if they’re in a line they’re easier to shoot

If they’re running wild it’s a lot harder

At 50 I'm still adjusting the ducks a little, plus new ones have a habit of coming along that need a little bit of training.

"For the things I can control yeah mine have been lined up for a long time.

When it comes to things where other people have been involved then they won't ever line up, other people always tend to throw a random spanner into the works somehow "

In terms of ducks in a line I think you should have used ... people let a fox run wild into your ducks

"So I’m coming up to 29 years of age and feel like by this age I should have really got my shit together and ducks lined up in terms of my life ....

I DON’T !

Partly not my fault partly I haven’t a fucking clue what I want ... where I want it and why I should ....

But hey I’m pressure free and lots of potential and possibilities I just need to make some choices

What year did you form an orderly queue with your ducks (life ) ?

I definitely can relate to you on this one OP, I myself turn 29 later this year and at times have felt exactly how you do.

Seeing people my age getting married, having kids, buying properties etc. The former two I feel I’m quite a way off from but the latter is something I’m working towards. I say just enjoy the ride, our time will come no doubt

"Some people have there ducks in a line and are happy, some people's ducks have never been tamed and are happy, some people have there ducks in a line and are unhappy, some people's ducks are wild and they're unhappy ... lots of people say they're happy but moan lots and some people moan lots but are actually happy ... some people have there ducks in a row but decide to lob dynamite at them (occasionally for no particular reason) and self-sabotage!

Who knows about fecking ducks? very few people seem to be happy, just find what truly makes you happy and lodge there for a while. Not sure anyone knows anything about life, just participate and enjoy the ride ... noone has the answers but you! "

I love this answer so much !

I can guarantee I’m not wishing my life away I’m doing things that I enjoy that others potentially will never get the chance to do and doing things for my happiness and enjoyment

"Relax OP. My ducks have been in and then out of line for decades. The next step is not minding at all if your ducks are where they're supposed to be. Ease off yourself a bit.

And if you're still feeling motivated, find one or two areas of life where you feel you can put your energy.

For me, once I put my efforts into my personal inner work, everything else fell into place "

I think I’d follow those ducks carefully if they lead back to you

Don't fuck with the squirrels, never fuck with the squirrels. This is important (as per Rick & Morty)

If you are still breathing in and out, have a roof over your head and food in your belly, you have your ducks in a row.
