Any tips? I know nothing about where to start, or if I’m brave enough but suddenly in a position of being able to rent until buying land so worth a thought.

Always dreamt of building into the side of a mountain for an eco friendly home....cheers

Have a look at HUF houses - they are high end German kit houses that are a lot cheaper than design and build from scratch.

They look amazing, wonder if they do the whole ‘deal’ although I suspect that’s as expensive as buying ready built.

Thanks for the good wishes, deffo not an architect here but a dreamer

Every time I think it sounds like a good idea I watch Grand Designs and you can GUARANTEE it’ll be the one episode out of 10 where they are having a nightmare.

Puts me off, but it does always look worth it in the end.

My only advice would be to budget and to have an emergency contingency fund. And to get a great architect. And a project manager, whether that is you or someone else.

Haha this is sooo me! I’m really rubbish with budgeting but if I employed someone to plan?

I think I have some research to do!

I need to be out of my house in about a month and hope to rent or van life in friends drive..

I noticed comment about mortgage being difficult too, I have a steady income and never defaulted so hope that would help

The Gov are launching a scheme shortly to help fund self builds. Your problem will be finding building land. In the south of England even a small plot for a modest house will be £200k+.

That’s me out on an NHS wage! Does this include Wales?

No north of England and some parts of Wales may be cheaper. Have a look on Plotfinder for an idea.
