Which hurts the most:

Saying something you wish you hadn't

Or

Saying nothing and wishing you had

"Which hurts the most:

Saying something I wish I hadn't. Because once said I cannot take it back. I can go back and say something if I choose not to say something at the time.

Probably saying nothing and wished I had but as I'm a bit feisty then that doesn't happen often.

depends on the outcome of what you said, both can hurt one way or another but for different reasons

It depends on the details, but in my experience I usually mess up on option 1 worse and more frequently.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

Saying something I wish I hadn't.

There's always time to say the thing in the future if you keep it to yourself, but once the words are out there they can't be taken back.

Both have their pros and cons. In my life I've had cause to regret things said and also wish I'd spoke up sooner on some things. Both have had long reaching consequences.

Not sure if anyone asked already.

But who is hurting. Other person or us. That could modify some answers.

On a mooch

One might hurt the person you say it to, the other will eat you up inside, may make you feel guilty if things go tits up for the person you wanted to say it to.

Just comes down to a simple how strong is the friendship and whether they might actually listen to your point of view. Other wise I stay out of it, it’s not my business and let the individual work it out and maybe a lesson learnt depending on the situation.

.

I think the latter.

The former can be undone. It may take time and much effort to prove that you had been wrong to say it but it can be undone.

To say nothing when speaking up might’ve helped is a guilt that cannot be easily let go of, especially when your silence has resulted in irrevocable damage.

It's a hypothetical question as to which one people would choose.

Saying nothing. Which I'm doing right now in a situation, to my own detrement.

For me it would be saying nothing and wish I had.

I only end up wondering "what if" I had.
