Oxford restaurant

Can anyone recommend a really good eatery in Oxford?

I’m looking to be there in a couple of weeks and may try and make a booking at an actual restaurant (for the first time in a year!)

to all the haters: I know about Google and am capable to search. I’d prefer a recommendation.

Quod and Browns always used to be pretty decent. Didn’t used to rake reservations at the weekend, may have changed since lockdown.

Well if you’re looking for a very good restaurant,

Le manoir aux quat saisons is a short taxi ride.

Personally I would rather go to Bray.

I suppose it depends what food your looking for, the giggling squid food is amazing as is the banana tree but both Thai restaurants

Nr. Oxford

Following this as we’ve struggled for good places to eat in Oxford in the past.

We had an expensive meal at the Ivy Oxford Brasserie and it was hugely disappointing verging on poor. The food was average and service poor. We actually felt unwelcome.

We’ve twice had excellent service at The Chequers in the town centre, the food was on the higher end of Pub food, but certainly not top level restaurant food.

Just outside of Oxford, The Fishes in Hinksey is our usual go to restaurant. Lovely atmosphere overlooking the river, top level service and a varied seasonal menu using local ingredients. Do book in advance though as it’s usually (used to be?) very busy.

Yes jacobs inn, they own another called jacobs ladder ( somewhere localish) and jacobs plough in Bicester

Did a bit of digging and found an old 2017 article that said the group were the Jacobs Inn, Jacobs & Field in Headington, Jacobs Chop House, Jacob plough and Woodstock arms,

Hope covid didn't send some under.

Za'atar Bake on the Cowley Road, a arabic bakery that does cafe style meals. Amazing experience!

There are a variety of places on the top floor of the Westgate Centre.

You could also try the Cowley Road - you could eat your way around the world there such is the diversity of cuisines available there.
