Who does your hair?

I was dark haired as a kid and went grey quite early, thanks to my dad's side who eventually go pure white!

I have mainly always dyed my own hair....it was the only way I could afford it.

Now, after going through all the colour shades from black to blonde, I'm happy with the colour.

The hairdressers often ask what I use.

Do you dye your own hair?

The last time the hairdressers did mine it was about £130 for a cut and colour!

The hairdresser. I find one I like and stick with them. My current hairdresser isn't expensive as hairdressers go, just over £50 for root touch up and a trim, I never have it blow dried I always hate it. I go every six weeks. Last lockdown I let the roots grow through and hated it, I came very close to getting Mr N to do them for me (as he did in first lockdown) but held out.

There and to the left a bit

I won't go just anywhere and shy away from some of the chain barbers that have appeared - if I move somewhere new I tend to nose round the various barbers in the town until I find one I like the look of - hasn't failed me yet.

My daughter cut mine over lockdown with a pair of clippers - Grade 3 all over I think, and did the job although prefer to have a barber cut it - have never paid more than £11 plus tip

Chams or Socials

I’m booked in for a colour & cut next Sunday. I was born a redhead but went dark before I started school

I normally colour my own & it takes 2 or 3 boxes but with lockdown & not going seeing anyone I couldn’t be bothered. I’m ashamed to say roots are now down to the top of my ears & so it needs doing properly. But I’ll have about 5 inches cut off first as charge by the weight of the dye used. If I had the face for a pixie cut I wouldn’t bother with a colour as I imagine I’ll be grey soon enough.

I travel back to my home town to get my hair done as its cheaper than in a city. I also love my hairdresser. It is pricey but I don't do nails, eyelashes or any other beauty treatments (except a bikini wax) that most of the other women around me seem to get. I also only have one handbag and not a great deal of shoes so I guess paying for my hair is my personal indulgence. It costs me nearly £100 once a year when she redoes the whole thing (bleach and colour) and then about £60-70 every other month to top up the colour in between. I'm lucky really that balayage can grow out and still look fine.

I'm trying to let it grow as much as possible so currently letting it be curly/natural most of the time. I've even got a couple of greys that I'm strangely proud of.

Really? Gosh I can't imagine it. My mum was the exact same colour naturally but she tends to dye hers lighter colours now. Maybe because it hides her greys easier I guess. I used to help her dye it when I still lived at home so she didn't miss behind her ears!

My step-mum has a salon and she's been cutting my hair for years, although I'm lazy about making appointments and often do it myself. Due to very sensitive skin I was grey until a fortnight ago when I dyed it with a product that doesn't leave me with weeping sores like most hair dyes do. I'm brunette again, but my hair has grown over 1cm in those 2 weeks. There's no way I can leave it 6 weeks between colours.

I used to dye my own hair when I did it years ago. I've used the college before for cuts as it was pretty cheap and they do a decent job but I am really bad at going to the hairdressers. I love people playing with my hair but I haven't found a regular hairdresser.

Plus my hair is really long and thick and I sometimes have to pay an extra fee because of it

Dye my own, always have always will.

I have killed it off with overuse of bleach a few times.. I get a bit addicted

I'm now working on phasing it out with a medium blonde, a few people have said it looks like ive had an ombre done the hair dressers not convinced but I'll take it.

I'm a year clean from the bleach blonde kits now and my hair is finally starting to grow again

"The hairdresser. "

I know what you mean about the blow drying. When I was trying to find a hairdresser I liked, I'd often come out thinking, it will look better when I've done it myself.

I've always dyed my own hair bar one time when I got it highlighted for my birthday. Never again!

Now my hairdresser just gives me tips on how to get one colour out and how to bleach it for the next one lol

I dye my own hair now as I can't afford a hairdresser

But will treat myself to a cut soon.

It's stupidly expensive to get my hair cut - I can't just go to any salon they won't do it

"I’m booked in for a colour & cut next Sunday.

J x"

That's a fair bit of dye you use!

I can understand the roots growing so long during lockdown.

I always feel great after having my hair done. I hope you come out feeling amazing.

"I won't go just anywhere and shy away from some of the chain barbers that have appeared - if I move somewhere new I tend to nose round the various barbers in the town until I find one I like the look of - hasn't failed me yet.

My daughter cut mine over lockdown with a pair of clippers - Grade 3 all over I think, and did the job although prefer to have a barber cut it - have never paid more than £11 plus tip "

That's a lot compared to PP's £1 cut

"Dye my own, always have always will.

"

I am very blonde but never used bleach. I always used nice and easy it was bleach free. Then they rebranded and the colour was never the same.

I had to google ombre..I'm a bit out of touch

"My step-mum has a salon and she's been cutting my hair for years, although I'm lazy about making appointments and often do it myself. "

Yes..I remember you saying you was having your hair done...that must have fetl great!.

Plus my hair is really long and thick and I sometimes have to pay an extra fee because of it "

I'm trying to let it grow as much as possible so currently letting it be curly/natural most of the time. I've even got a couple of greys that I'm strangely proud of."
