Experts are soon to make lab grown meat from pork..

They are Frankenstein Frankfurters. My question is this.. who would eat them?

You always bring the good news, how about doing those stories at the end of news programmes they used to do, you know the light hearted ones, the skateboarding bulldog or the local man who one on a scratch card twice on the same day.

I probably wouldnt't. Mainly as I've been veggie all my life so haven't felt the need to try meat substitutes that mimic real meat. But that's just me. Maybe someone who used to be a meat eater might dive in. Who knows.

Why would vegetarians eat them if they are derived from pork? Surely the word vegetarian is a bit of a giveaway

Surely that depends on the reason for being a vegetarian?

I know plenty of vegetarians that love the taste of meat, but hate the fact an animal died to supply it. If they could produce a 'meat' that didn't cause any harm to an animal, then I'm sure they would be really interested in it.

As a meat eater, I'm know I am, as I feel a little conflicted between my love of animals and my love of meat. This could be just right for me.

As it’s derived from pork I wouldn’t eat it, soy based “meat” tasting products are a bit different, but like you say we all have our views on it

That sounds like you are verging more on the vegan beliefs than those of a more traditional vegetarian. But that's cool as everyone is entitled to their own individual beliefs (it would be really boring if we all thought the same).

By the way in this case 'derived from pork' means using a single pig cell to produce large amounts of cultures from which they can then grow the meat, so no animal is harmed in any way.

Central

If it's actually created from an animal that was killed for food and/or cell harvesting, I'd imagine not many would want to.

Artificially cultured meats may not be the major alternatives to meat, with substantially lower environmental impacts. Energy use may be large still.

I'd prefer a switch to a more vegetarian based diet.
