Serendipity

I used to go food shopping in Liptons on a Thursday night with my parents as a young child.

Remember taking the corona bottles back to get money back on them.

Their head office was in Prestatyn of all places

They disappeared into Somerfield

Does Somerfield still exist or are they all re-branded as Co-ops now?

I haven't seen one in donkeys. Gateway became somerfield, they took over Kwik Save and that shop shut down then not too long after that the local Somerfield became a Morrisons. That was back in the naughties I think.

According to Wiki, Somerfield was taken over by Co-op in 2011 and re-branded

I'm guessing as part of that re-brand some stores were closed and the properties sold to other retailers or leases ended

Co-operative group has a huge property portfolio and not just in shops

Loved spending time in the Tottenham Court Road store, sadly missed.

"Woolworths and their pick n mix"

If you want to tragic story about the Winfield Woolworth family, have a look at the life of Barbara Hutton, who inherited one third of the Woolworth fortune, but through exploitation by some of her seven husbands, her fairweather friends and other unscrupulous professional died with only £3000 to her name.

A tragic story of riches to rags.
