I'm in the process of moving and in need of your clever packing tips please.

Roll clothes individually rather than folding them. They will fit better into a box and you can fit more in.

Write a list of what is in each box and tape it to the top.

Pack a first night box that has just the essentials.

Label your sex toys as attic box so no one else goes delving through it.

Once got a removal company to do everything for us, thinking this would be less stressful. Turned out not to be the case. There was a worry of things getting marked/damaged. A couple of things did get marked

Pack a suitcase like you would for a long weekend

Clothes, toiletries, valuables and tech.

Then you aren't in a blind rush those first couple of days and can live out of your case

Use towels, tea towels and underwear to pack crockery saves you having to get rid of newspapers etc.

Obvious but worth mentioning, label boxes with contents and room.

Take clothes straight out of the wardrobe hangers and all, fold in half and lift out the other end.

Enlist friends to help.

I'm moving in with an amazing man and I thought it would be easier moving into somewhere already furnished but It is actually trickier as we have two places to declutter and sort.

You can buy wardrobe boxes which are really bloody useful. Chuck your smalls in the bottom and just lift everything on hangers to the rail in the box.

I'm normally very organised and everything has a place so the chaos of moving is tricky.

I've moved absolutely loads ... pack each room separately and label each room it's going to

Clothes go in bags ... saves room

Leave boxes in the room it's packed so therefore easy to put straight into room going to

1) when I moved, I used a storage locker to move stuff out piecemeal.

2) vacuum bags can reduce clothing size

3) if I were to move again. - I would get movers in!

If you have things you haven’t used in the last year and are in boxes. Believe me you won’t use them either in the next place. Unless the new location is substantially different from your current one. Don’t bring them. As Mary Condo would say if it doesn’t bring you spark don’t keep it

I was about to write this.

I recently moved and they’re brilliant, plus they’re all the same size so stacking is easier and they interlock so they won’t fall over.

Can you make lists of things to do? A list for each room and space to tick it off as you go. Like a table/ spreadsheet.

List of the items in the first column, 2nd column state which box you've put it in. (E.g. Bedroom box 8) 3rd column for comments or tick to say that item is packed, 4th column for when you unpack.

It might make it feel more organised and in control as you will know exactly where everything is.

Which box and packed/ unpacked status.

You can then use the lists again when you arrive and unpack.

If you have flat pack stuff that you need to disassemble, use sandwich bags to keep the screws in, tape them to the items and use cable ties to keep everything together.

Mark where each bit went with a sharpie so it’s easier to put back together

Get packing boxes from ebay, double wall 24inch x 24 inch so they all stack easily and get removal men.

I've moved twice in the last few years and will be doung so again soon and the removal guys have told me they're the best things to move with as they don't carry too much weight, stack easily in the lorry and hold plenty.

Bubble wrap too, no need to go nuts as a well packed box stops things moving too much anyway.

Also plastic wrap the outside of the box. Helps keep them together, waterproofing and they stick to each other when you stack em in a van.

Op, you must have screw divers , duct tape and carrier bags when dismantling furniture. Once you take a wardrobe apart , place all the screws etc... in the bag and tape it to the wardrobe door.

Nothing worse than when you are in your new home and you can’t put anything back together again

Put the kettle, tea bags, milk mugs, teaspoons etc. and loads of biscuits in one box, this should be the first box to go to the new place and the first to be unpacked.

A quick teabreak can make all the difference.

One thing that happened to me is the realisation that I have got waaay too much crap I really don't need. Eighteen months later I have at least 20 boxes I have not unpacked.

Probably the best advice I have is to have a garage sale and donate to the charity shops. Then you don't need to pack all that clutter.
