Posh areas of the UK?

Being a Yorkshireman I know I am not posh in the slightest I realised though, that I don’t really even know what areas of the country ARE posh.

I saw an article about Fulham being a posh area and was surprised. When I think of Fulham are you think of a rubbish football team (though I don’t actually watch football so sorry if I am offending any fans). I always associate posh with somewhere like Kent (don’t laugh at me if it isn’t )

It made me think, what parts of the country are posh? Is it more south? Are there any posh areas up north? Also what do people define as posh?

Where I live is often described as the ‘Monaco of Devon’, admittedly it’s usually by me who says it, people ask where I live, I say the non specific location and then follow it up with the caveat that it’s the ‘Monaco of Devon’.

Probably the most expensive area near me is Salcombe, it’s right on the estuary, it’s like the Sandbanks of Devon.

"Cheltenham darling "

I know a very elderly lady in my work team who is from Cheltenham. For the life of me did not understand why she was in Yorkshire. She talked so posh I used to love copying some of the phrases she’d say.

There aren't many places that aren't a mix, but Surrey is fairly posh. Chelsea, Kensington and Knightsbridge are very posh.

There are posh areas, and there are areas with money.

Moneyed areas aren't necessarily posh

This is true. Maida Vale. Islington. Very affluent now! There’s still awful areas around there too.

I'm from Kent and her ladyship days I sound posh but the whole county definitely isn't. Houses around Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and the Weald are incredibly expensive which I guess is as good an indicator of a posh area as any.

On the other hand, "Chatham Chav" was the first time I ever heard the expression "chav".

Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent is strange.. £1million+ houses and then not far away council estates.

When i tell people I'm from there they automatically think I'm a posh lad.

Every area has expensive posh areas and skanky downmarket areas. Your example of Kent - some lovely country houses that cost millions but also many areas of deprivation where people live under the breadline.
