"The BBC has said that it would recommission the series if the creator and writer, Jed Mercurio wishes to continue. However, one could be entirely forgiven in deducing from this decidedly underwhelming ending, which has been met with universal dissatisfaction from fans, that it would seem to indicate that Mercurio himself may have run out of creative steam or else possibly somewhat lost interest with this particular project. Having said that though, the viewing figures were as always for LOD, through the blooming roof so I’m quite sure that the BBC will be applying not inconsiderable pressure on him to get his AC-12 creative juices flowing again… " Or perhaps in true Jed Mercurio style the underwhelming ending was a deliberate ploy knowing full well he has a storyline lined up that shows the ending was a cover up and the big "reveal" was nothing more than a pawn in the game who was used as a patsy, and Jed and the team can come out flicking V's and going "Ha ha fooled you" At least that's what I'm hoping anyway

Since then the show got by on strong characters and performances while the main plot got a bit repetitive, convoluted and ever further detached from reality. Was always going to be a really tough one to get a satisfactory ending for - and that was borne out in the last season there. I wouldn't be against more, they are really good characters, but the writing would need to improve.
