I would think that very few places don’t allow single women to stop these days. I’d recommend not trying to stop on the road though, just the services

The Town by The Cross

For ease of stopping and price I have used travelodges along the M6.

I like the Gretna Hotel at Gretna Green too .......

On the outskirts of Edinburgh I found the Dalhousie Castle to be comfortable and friendly and also the Dog and Laird
