Covert narcissism

Recently, I have had experience of this in my life and have looked into what the characteristics are and how you can spot/avoid anyone who displays these traits.

Have you had any relationships in the past and experienced covert narcissism? Could you recognise the traits of a covert narcissist?

I was very surprised today to find this out, I didn't even recognise these traits as they aren't as obvious as an overt narcissist.

It would be interesting to hear others opinions and experiences.

Worked with them.

Only speak to you when they want something then blank you completely.

Jealous of you being happy and you'll find relationship's they have always end badly.

Best thing is to play them at their own game. Or avoid

I suspect many of us have experienced aspects of narcissistic behaviour within a relationship on occasion.

I also suspect way fewer of us have actually been in a relationship with someone who has been diagnosed as having narcissistic personality disorder.

I think my tactic would be avoid as well. I recognised the shy but needing approval signs but the other ones came as a shock to me.

I just didn't see it coming.

The lack of empathy was another glaring sign but I didn't put the two together

I guess being diagnosed with that could be a challenge to someone with narcissistic personality disorder as one of the traits is not accepting of criticism and a high view of self importance!

Well it sure clashes with nervous autism. A terrible combination esp when kids are involved

Is it like a normal narcissist, but wears a balaclava?

Pretty much!

No, they just don't outwardly display their self importance. They self depreciate to obtain compliments and lack empathy and run others down to make themselves feel better.

Yes although so many labels like this feel like they fit anyone you don't like. It can be as easy as reading star signs to make these simplified summaries fit anyone when in reality they just specifically think you're a prick or something.

Personally I think we're getting to the stage where everything has to be labelled when people are just different to each other and some learn ways to manipulate or are just not very nice.

they always right never to anything wrong and thats why relationships dont work for them.

its pointless calling them out because the level of damage they try to do to your character goes up.

best avoid , stand back and snigger when the latest episode involving them ends badly.
