What puts you off a person

Jump to newest

Manchester (he/him)

After a little chat that I had yesterday, it got me thinking as to what puts people off another person. Most of us are here to meet others and will flirt or try to put the best foot forward in terms of ourselves, so that others see us in a positive light, is that the best approach though?

I’m aware that I’m a contrary sod at times and I’m prone to speak (or write) my mind which has precluded folks meeting me, however I see that as just an indicator that we weren’t compatible and I enjoy meeting people who I can disagree with but understand there’s a respect there.

So what would put you off meeting people? Do you prefer folks to be agreeable and flirty? Would politics or religious views make you rethink?

I realise that attraction is a difficult beast to pin down but what would be a deal breaker?

Very poor grammer/text talk.

I can handle the typos or some not being able to spell so well but sometimes it is just painful to read.

Crudeness too, being on a sex site doesn't mean I want to sext with you or help you wank off.

Finally, non profile readers, or worse, those who read and see they are not your type but still try it anyway.

Oh, so many things...I'm a pernickety bugger

Some of the biggies are hypocrisy, lying, being false, not having the mental agility to debate and respect different opinions, being too serious.

On here, specifically with regards to meeting...if I don't fancy them

I've stopped thinking I'm here to impress or show myself in the 'best' light. It's not so much put me off but if conversation in messaging feels like 'work' or I'm doing all the 'heavy lifting' then my enthusiasm and mind will drift away from it.

And he was very opinionated he was loudly racist! About a man on next table! And about a baby crying! Was so embarrassing! Then he got onto transgender people! That was last straw as have a transgender daughter which I told him! Then got up and walked out! Was so arrogant! He continued to shout after me he could get any woman he wanted! Was deffo my worst experiance! ! X

Any hint of manipulation or game playing to get what they want and I end the chat. Ie "I asked X and they said they were totally cool with Y so we can do Z", when nothing of the sort happened and X has no idea that Z is happening.

"I'd say one of the biggest things that stops me messaging with a person is when there like over the top with the being constantly complementative or constantly go back every couple of messages to your just so pretty or whatever, like I'd all we have to talk about is how 'hot' you think I am then we have nothing to talk about and I'm bored now "

Yeah totally, I’m like can we just stop talking about my hotness and talk about the Renaissance arts or some shit.

At initial message stage, loads of things put me off, so I’ll answer based on what puts me off people I’ve started talking to. Any hint of bigotry, however faint; talking down to me or acting superior; being pushy, pressuring me, demanding photos; calling me babe; only messaging me with their dick in their hand; only ever wanting to talk about sex; there’s probably more, but those are the main things.

Quite a few things really. Some of them include:

I prefer chilled laidback types that send a message as and when. They’re not pushy, they’re happy to just go with the flow. I don’t like neediness in a man. However that has to be tempered with showing an actual interest.

I don’t like long emails, I lose interest and I start to think of replying as a chore and I feel guilty for not being enthused and heck Fab is supposed to be fun.

I don’t get on with men who take themselves too seriously or who take me and my forum humour too seriously, I’m aware I can be smutty and vulgar in some posts, but I’m not like that in person and don’t need a lecture on how a woman should behave.

Any form of abuse. If they name and shame folk or cause drama. If they declare undying love to another forumite publicly whilst trying to woo me privately.

I go with my gut instinct a lot and sometimes you just get a bad feeling about someone.

And sometimes you just don’t have chemistry, and there is no point in trying to flog a dead horse, even for a top notch shag.

I’m also incredibly moody so I need someone upbeat. Two moody folk together is just a disaster waiting to happen.

That’s a fair assessment.

Perhaps the correct phrasing should be what would prevent your interest in a person.

Although I find that most people are like Schrödinger’s cat and exist in a position of being both yes and no until something happens to change it

But then I have a mood disorder so I can easily put other people off if they catch me on the 'swing' (so to speak).
