I remember the greats like Dave Allen, Benny Hill, Tommy Cooper.

I saw Noble in Leeds a few years ago. It sounds like hyperbole but I laughed so much in was painful lol

I would agree there... I am not sure what it was about Les Dawson for example, or Tommy Cooper and indeed Morecambe and Wise.. and the two Ronnies... as they are still funny today!

Freddie 'Parrot Face' Davis, Mick Millar, Stan Boardman, Les Dawson, Bernard Manning, Charlie Drake, Tommy Cooper, Bob Monkhouse, basicly the enter cast of ITV's 'The Comedians'.

Barry Crier - a very funny man though mainly a writer for comedians.

The 'newer' ones you gotta include Ben Elton, Greg Davies, Peter Kaye and a few others.

Tim Vine - don't get him I'm affraid, just not funny his 'jokes' are all predictable playground one liners.

see the stand ups that got me into comedy were the Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Sam Kennison, Bill Hicks, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams ect...

even now... Chris Rock, Dave Chappell, Louis CK

I love british comedians... I love a lot of the newer stuff... Sarah Millican, Jon Richardson, John Bishop.... but is is completely different to american stuff so I wouldn't compare them...

Must admit some of the US comedians are pretty good so, A fair point, well made

The canned laughter refers US sitcoms, not a big fan, but they seem popular with some... Thats the great thing about comedy, it can appeal to so many different peoples

My dad loved Dave Allen and I grew to like him too and I used to like Dick Emery. In the 80s I was a big fan of the Mary Whitehouse Experience, Ben Elton, Blackadder, Jasper Carrot.

Just last week I decided to watch one of my sons DVDs which was 'An Idiot Abroad'. I had heard of it before but thought it wouldn't be my thing. I love it, I laughed the whole way through, so even though I'm slow on the uptake and this series ended a year ago, I'm working my way through all the series

Im so glad someone loved Dave Allen I think they should re run his series I did see him live and i was in histerics

Dave Allen was my fav when I was a kid, along with a lot of Spike Milligan, Marty Feldman and Monty Python, although they were more sketch than stand-up. Love Billy Connelly, Emo Phillips, Ben Elton and Alexei Sayle. Now, favs include Bruce Morten, Jerry Sadowitz, Des Clarke, Tim Vine, Russell Brand, Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr.
