Tavistock is actually one of my fave places with the best pub ever and I'm blessed, covid aside, to work there "Henry 8th said “if it’s raining anywhere in my kingdom, it’s raining in Tavistock”. Ironically, my office is in Truro and we’re things different I would be travelling down 3 days a week. Top scone tip: make with buttermilk | |||

For this reason is why cream go's on first plus it's possible to get the maximum amount of cream and jam on one half of a scone 
As for the origin of the pasties well earliest on record is from France of a "paste" a round pie containing red meat usually venison, veal, beef or mutton and root vegetables made/cooked without a dish in the 1300s
Where as the earliest record of the pasty is in the Plymouth (Devon) in the early 1500s around 150 years later.
Been as Plymouth is only the width of the tamar river away from Cornwall and it been the major port of the area it's believed that the pasty recipe migrated in throughout the southwest from this port from France.
The cornish where well known for being shipwreckers and probably stole them from sinking ships from France and pass them off as their own | |||

"If you get the proper really good clotted cream that is stiff with a yellow crust on the top from the high fat content like you should have it's very difficult to spread it over the jam. The jam is thinner and not as sticky and will spread over the cream. Other way around and the cream can slip off and end up in you're lap
