"Stuck up toffs? or just so detached from reality? Gold-medal winning stuck up toffs you mean? Apart from Charlotte Dujardin, who isn't a stuck up toff (born in Enfield, left school at 16) and has got where she is though her parent's sacrifice and her own merit."

"Stuck up toffs? or just so detached from reality?" There is a perception they are toffs by some but I think you will find more of the Olympic sailors and rowers are toffs than equestrians.

They dont just get put down if they dont make the grade. Horse people are caring people and treat their horses like family members

" I dont dipute their horseperson ship, its there toffy nosed detached from reality when interviewed therafter" Your comments smack of inverted snobbery. They will have put in as much effort as any sports person there. How sad it is that their achievements are dismissed because someone thinks the fact they don't sound common enough or sound too posh makes them detached from reality. Do you seriously think you would interview impressively if you had a microphone stuck in your face just as you won an Olympic gold? I doubt it and I would hope people would cut you some slack knowing your emotions must be all over the place. We get to see sports peple interview dsy in day out, all year, footballers in particularly. I hope to God you are not saying they should be the benchmark for post event interviewing greatness with a grasp on reality!!

" Her mum was on when she won. They had no money behind them other than she had a show pony and yes you can get them cheap. she then went on to say that that her mum (the young ladies nan)died and left her enough money to buy a horse. Even though it wasnt that expensive the lady who won the gold did very well on it. she got where she was winning gold as her mum had asked another British rider to give her daughter lessons. He put her on one of HIS horses in fact it was the one she won on. So no she's not a toff as you put it. I think she had the princes trust behind her as it was constantly mentioned.

They have spent the last few years preparing for these few short weeks. The run up to the Games has been spent in isolation from family and friends and spent with coaches and other athletes/competitors. They are then interviewed at the moment when their adrenalin has peaked and they are at their most emotional.

I'd say that for anyone who wants the easy job of criticising, that participating is a harder effort in itself. Whether the sport is of your own preference or not, you should be basking in the golden afterglow that Team GB as a whole have achieved this Olympics. We will be remembering their achievements for years to come yet. What they need now more than anything is the momentum of the people to make sure efforts go into producing athletes for the next one. We have truly pulled off a wonder on a tight budget, and this nation should be proud of them... all of them. Wolf

Its rear most work hard and thay have a gift and people see that and take them on ... look at the Black girl who won boxing today .. a normal family from 12 boxing and working hard . she was not the only one ....... the girl who won gold Dressage had very little money ... one of her family died thay got her a pony with some of the money left to them and she had a gift for Dressage its a very hard sport and maybe people think horse do everything no the rider tells him what to do .. and she got as far as she could on her own and Carl Hester steped in to offer her his horses as he could see how good she was and had a gift.... The people have a love and a gift for there sports why thay are there the best in the world ... and no matter how much money you have cant give you that .. and no horse can .. with out the best rider . " Absolutely spot on. I attended a lecture recently by a professor of neuroscience who, in a nutshell confirmed that success is 20% genetic (talent) and 80% hard work... so people from all sorts of backgrounds should have a chance .

That is, I hope, is the real legacy of the Olympics: young people learning that success comes from real hard work and dedication and not from being on a reality show. I heard a piece on the radio that said a web-site helping people to find their closest gymnastics club has gone from 40-50 hits a week to 3,000 in a day.

"Mersey man...I take it you dont bother with the rugger' then? Is it their fault they have or were born into bagfulls of money?..yes it pisses me off no end that most ordinary kids will never get the chance to play Hockey at senior club level, be able to compete in the yachting, or horse riding..but how many 'toffs' get the chance to box or play football? To be able to excel and succeed in most sports you need money.. I know a few kids who couldnt make the commonwealth squads because their parents couldnt afford to take them training 4 mornings a week and nearly every evening...I knew teenagers who were excellent marks men and women..but couldnt afford to lay out for their own pistols..(500 quid back in the eighties)... Its very hard for some kids to get into sport..how many working class Tennis players do you know of?.. Its just the way it goes..good luck to these people I say..we should be proud of their achievements and dedication to their sport. Not trying to give you a rough ride fella..but its not that cut and dry..and remember its all relative too...it hurts a family who have an income of 100k a year for them to buy a horse as much as it does a family who have an income of 15 grand a year to buy an Epee or a Foil and all the rest of the gear required.." if a parent believes in their child enough it doesnt matter how much money they earn they will find a way to get them where they need to be. There are lots of athletes/sports me and women whose family have got into debt, worked 4 jobs, flogged the family silver etc just to get to see their child run/swim/ride/sail their way to glory. yes there needs to be a lot more investment in our sports programmes as we are still outclassed in the majority of track/field/swimming events which are the 'star events' but where there is a will there is a way

You've only given two choices, both of which are leading towards the same derogatory conclusion. A proper question designed to gather the forum opinion would have been something like 'what does everyone think of the equestrian gold medal winning tream?' you're just looking for people to confirm your theory, which you've put forward in many subsequent posts following your initial one, that being because they have a plumb accent and competed with horses, that they are stuck up toffs or detached from reality. You other observations that the losing horses are just made into glue is simply stupid. Do you honestly think that circumstance and background automatically makes you stuck-up?

"Stuck up toffs? or just so detached from reality?" I think you have had a hard time on here. Ok your post isn't the best worded post I have seen....but having been around horses for years I agree there are some stuck up people who have horses but there are also lots of people who have horses who are not stuck up. It can also bring out real bitches in this hobby. Swings and roundabouts, like everything in life.

"Stuck up toffs? or just so detached from reality?" All horsey stuff... no. Remember even pikeys have horses. But as one of the team GB guys said (in so many words) when it comes to the horsey dancing stuff, it is very rare for someone like the new girl from an ordinary background to get involved because of the cost. He went on to say how difficult it is getting to keep the horses as the people who actually own them(as an asset) are being offered large amounts of money to sell them off to other countries. I quite liked watching the horsey dancing, but I am not sure the rider should get the medal or if it should be an olympic sport.... I have mixed views. One rider actually said the horse nearly did the routine by itself. It's not like cycling... you could put all the riders on shit bikes and they would still have a race. Put all the horsey dancer riders on shit horses and they'd be fucked.

"So I understand Jordan ( Katie Price) takes part in Equestrian events. And she's a stuck up toff is she...? she's had a couple of toffs stuck up her (allegedly) I don't understand dressage. It looks like a competition to see who has the best dancing horse. Probably more at home on Britain's Got Talent" what looks like ease and elegance takes years of traing and patience just like gymnastics it may look efffortless but takes huge amounts of discipline and control all the signals from rider to horse are done very subtly so it may appear that the rider is just sitting there on a dancing horse but it is a partnership built on trust and understanding,

"You think you can get a horse to do them moves after 5 mins.. It takes years. Horses are funny creatures they to have to trust who is on their back.." also a horse fan, and an ex rider, definitely not a toff! There are toffs in most sports. The riders and owners (well most owners who understand the sport) love their horses as much as they love their own kids. They live in a horsey luxury, even those who don't make the grade. Another thing mentioned was the post interview.... I am not interested in someone who plays up to the camera and gush over the public, I prefer dignified sports people.

"I do understand it takes years of training to get a horse to look like it is dancing to music and I really did enjoy watching it...... but it's not the riders who spent years training the horse. Didn't one rider say they only had one chance to run through the whole routine with the horse they were riding? Which means someone else did the really hard work....... may be they should be the ones who get the medal?" What about poor old Dobbins, he's had to put up with someone hollering at him for years and years to do some silly sideways dance when all he wants to really do is RUN ... and JUMP... and frollick about. Give Dobbins the blimmin medal, he's earned it.

I do think the horses deserve more than a rosette, and Im sure they get a lot of treats, but its all about control for the riders, even more for the trainers. I love the dressage, as it fascinates me, just as much as dancing dogs on BGT does

The riders have to train with their horse, it's a partnership built on trust and that takes time. Sometimes if you ride the whole test through the horse then know's it and may pre-empt the riders instructions. That's maybe why they'd only ridden the complete test once!

Then may be they should run through the routine more times and let the horse do it without a rider... that would be cool.
