Have you ever wondered what is the "origin" of your kink? What event triggered associating certain activity with a special kind of stimulation and pleasure? Is it possible to identify it?

I dont want to play 'Freud' here, so rather than analysing other people in comments, I thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts on your own journeys.

It's a hard question I know. I was hoping some might describe it diplomatically. Maybe not best for public discussion, but some don't mind spilling their guts and I am always curious if I'm the only one to have this random thoughts.

This is a subject that fascinates me. I think that I have an idea on where my kinks originate, but I’m not on the right frame of mind to share some of it.

With my submissive side, I’m generally in control and on top of things, so to let it all go and hand over the control, it’s bliss.

I think mine come from curiosity of exploration, rather than deep rooted things I suspect, and tapping into things I suppose I must have always had, but never really paid attention to. Though I don’t have anywhere the same quantity or level of kinks as some.

It’s an interesting question, some very niche kinks out there so I wonder where those come from. I suspect it’s such a broad thought process people may not ever find out, alongside many self understanding questions.

Personally I don't dwell on it as I think it's too complicated and you can end up looking for things that aren't there. I like what I like and as long as I and the people involved are happy, that's all that matters to me.

I totally get it can be interesting to think about. Part of my dissertation was on theories about latex fetishes. Some of them were hilarious though

I think that is a lot of it with me to be fair... people in the 'normal' world would have me down as quite unassuming in the main, quite easy to slip into the background; they'd be shocked if they knew about the 'other' side of me

I have no idea why I'm into certain things. I can pin point bits of what does it for me, but other than that I don't think trying to work it all out will give an actual answer.

But, if you hadn't had certain partners, read things in books, online, had certain experiences or had friends that were in certain scenes etc.... Would you be into what you are now?

Would more people be into a whole lot more if they were exposed to the above?

Are we are all kinky in some way but don't ever know it if you don't get the avenue to open you up to it?

I think mine naturally evolved when I was introduced to fetish nights in Manchester way back in the early 90s. I had the most incredible, open minded and diverse friends and everything was simply about pleasure, in so many forms. I think it’s simply what makes us human and different to animals - creativity, expression, adventure , personal growth ?

I read a lot of stuff suggests people doing this aren't broken or in therapy at all but the opposite - more extraverted and open to new experiences, less rejection sensitive, higher well-being

I have been known to switch, I am predominantly dom, I like to be in control, it about power to a degree but it only truly works with trust in both parties, agreeing where the boundaries are and not exceeding them, understanding what you both want out of the experience.

For me, it was seeing music videos. I loved to watch them and in the 80s they became more sexualised.

I watched 'justify my love' by Madonna on Ch4 when it was released and we all stayed up late to watch this 'risqué' video. Something just clicked and I knew at that point I wanted to do lots of that stuff

It changed my whole idea of sex at that point.
