Although "sauerkraut" is a German word, the dish did not originate in Germany, as fermenting cabbage as Suan cai was already practised back in the days of the building of the Great Wall of China, and the practice was likely transmitted from China to Europe by the Tartars.

'Kraut' is used in German compound words (sour cabbage) but the usual stand alone word for cabbage is 'kohl', as in the former German Chancellor Helmut Cabbage.

I haven't eaten meat for a few years now.

Veg is so versatile. My salads are tasty and filling and veg is not just something to boil to mush.

Couldn't live without veg..... not happily anyway.
