Thank god for that. Though I never thought it was serious....I still feel it is a bargaining gambit to try and take more control of the champions league. Some of these clubs say the cant survive with their current income levels. Here is a suggestion for them....if your turnover is 500million a year dont spend 501million. Stop paying ridiculous transfer fees and wages.i have a business and have to balance the outgoings against the income.

Now all we need is the European club competitions to go back to a full knockout format. Apart from the odd one or two, it's the same teams year in year out.

For the neutral, most of the current group stage matches are not worth watching.

Uefa and Fifa are as corrupt as they come. They've had a duopoly on our game and the running of it. The irony of all this should not be lost on all the fans. Personally its just one set of greedy bastards shafting another set of greedy bastards, with the true fans at the shit stick end of it all.

See how easy it was to stop this happening, A huge fan backlash, Ex players etc, Now if we all do the same about tickets prices Sky/BT prices stupid kick off times.

As for the other 14 clubs well done for standing your ground, Sky let there presents run on this for the last 48 hours why ? Because they wasn't involved

It has served it's purpose.

The big clubs now have given the establishment, the warning that if they do not get a larger cut, this nonsense will be hanging over them like some sort of Sword of Damocles.

The idea will be resurrected in 3 years time when the next set of contracts are negotiated by UEFA and FIFA.

Like some have already said on this thread the clubs were using it as a bargaining tool to get more of the television money. I noticed that the 12 clubs were from 3 countries that have a 20 team league and I am wondering in order to accommodate a expanded Champions League will they now try to go down to 18 team leagues and in England perhaps scrap the League cup.

. Yes the T20 and One day cricket we see now was pretty much born by what Kerry Packer did all those years ago. Do you think under UEFA / FIFA guidelines we could see say a football tournament / league of say 8 a side with 30 minutes a half.Or even the power leagues we have now for 5 a side or 6 a side been a lucrative way to take football in a different direction

I'm not sure what format could or would work for football maybe going back to its roots and letting players tackle each other like they used to in the good old days maybe it's a chance to introduce a wage cap to stop teams dominating leagues with wealth or at the very least invest in some acting coaches for certain players and to quote my brother

The concept of a European football super league is based on the American sporting franchise model such as NFL, NBA and Baseball. Even the fledgling MLS has the same traits as the European super league.

For the investors the model of a group of invited participants playing each other a guaranteed number of times brings certainty which in turn attracts fans, sponsors and advertisers.

It’s an American model that pays big money to the participants but devoid of the healthy competition that is currently the theme in European footy. It works well for a nation that by and large has the concentration span of a fruit fly?

Now its time for sanctions against these clubs.

Their Chairmen have been secretly negotiating this deal for months, with the sole purpose of stiching everyone else up.

Pathetic club statements saying "we didn't want to get left behind" just don't cut it. Its greedy deceit and nothing else.

And if clubs want to reduce their huge debts, stop paying bang average players, like Ozil and Bale, millions NOT to be playing!

As soon as they saw the fans were against it they knew it could be a vote winner among the permanently thick, good old Boris stopped the greed and coruption. Reading

"The concept of a European football super league is based on the American sporting franchise model such as NFL, NBA and Baseball.

This I think was not being done for the European market. It was being aimed at the Asian market. There being a big viewing potential for games. The clubs are the most well known etc outside of their national countries . So a big money earner, while no earnings at present from matches in UK etc. Would not get money for pay per view . But get viewing deals with Asian broadcasters.

High Wycombe

It was definitely done for Asian fans. Especially since the statement of them launching it went live late in Europe but just in time for Asia.

Also telling that it wasn't called The European Super League so that it could expand with other teams around the world
