Anybody done it and if so what did you make of it? I was really quite surprised, mine was frighteningly accurate. It's as if someone had been observing me all my life.

Couldn't agree with you more. I did a few when at college doing psychology and wasn't particularly impressed, thought they were as vague as star sign traits but this is really quite good. But not to live your life by.

I'm honestly a real mix. I need enough alone time and can get peopled out but I also go stir crazy if alone too much. It entirely depends on my state of mind whether unwinding is laughing and joking with a group of friends or hibernating under a blanket watching a film.

Oh dear.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is complete bunk.

It was designed-by a mother-and-daughter team with no background in psychology or statistics.

It's completely pseudoscientific. It's based on literally nothing but them deciding that their experiences as wives and mothers taught them everything there is to know about "personality types". No evidence, no controlled trials, nothing.

I recommend an article called 'The Capitalist Origins of the Myers-Briggs Personality Test' by Merve Emre.

Oh, and all those people who take the test and are astonished by how well it fits them? That's called the "Forer effect", also known as the "Barnum effect". It's exactly the same reason that otherwise sensible people buy into horoscopes.

Which, incidentally, are about as much use for anything as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

The right place

The MBTI is widely acknowledged to be inaccurate. More than half of people that take it a second time get a different result.

Neither Myers or Briggs had any formal training in psychology and yet many companies spend fortunes putting staff through it. I think it’s clever marketing more than accurate personality evaluation.

I’ve done it three times and been different each time. When I read the blurb about the outcome each one made sense but they are full or general statements that most people experience at some point in their life.

They are designed to help you identify your natural preferences... A bit like most of us have a dominant leg that we start walking with... Once you know your natural preference you can then decide if you want to try and gain more emotional intelligence for instance , or leadership or decisiveness.

In times of stress /excitement you will generally return to your "type" (your comfort zone if you like)

Mine helped me to communicate better with one of my colleagues... Once i realised he was a P and needed time to exhaust all options, i was able to slow my process and show the options and explain how I'd discounted or favoured them by taking him through my thought process (instead of having all the process in my head), which helped him to reach the same conclusion i had, which then lets us move forward with a decision!

Can you tell I'm a commander

"Just done the test and I was hoping it would be an accurate depiction of my character. Sadly it was not, it was as ambiguous as reading my horoscopes or palm reading. "

That's what I usually find but I was pleasantly surprised with it but only in the name of fun. I certainly wouldn't live by it and if you asked me in a years time I probably wouldn't even remember the outcome.

I am ENFP-T. I have done the test few times within few years and always get the same. I find it very accurate, as some said just like reading about myself..

I actually as or tell people i chat on here to do it for some time, so was interesting to be told about this thread this morning...

And i found that only few personalities would get fascinated by the test.. I found Facebook groups and Instagram pages full of memes etc..

But they really resonate

"I'm an architect - INTJ - apparently we're quite rare!"

Yes you are! I have one Architect fab friend. And we really get on.

I read somewhere that ENFP likes to adopt always at least one INTJ

As Swing said, I don't take this very seriously... but I've done this a few times over the years and my result is Mediator INFP-T which I feel is pretty much spot on when reading it and comparing it to the other types.

I am ENFP and its such a bang on description. The best lover and partner I ever had seemed to be INFJ. It was like being in the hands of a psychic pleasure god. Problem is INFJ men are as rare as hens teeth and because of their secretive personality they hide under a camouflaged guise

.

Love to PM chat with any other ENFP ladies who have or had a INFJ lover ?

"Oh dear.

Which, incidentally, are about as much use for anything as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator."

As a psychologist it really irks me when people use them but that is just how things are. I understand it’s a bit of fun but some people DO take it very seriously.

I’d also recommend people watching the Derren Brown interview on cold reading. It’s all youtube. He explains the forer and barnum effects too.

As an amateur magician I dabbled in some cold reading and reading peoples minds. I was shocked how many people really took it to heart even when I told them it was just trickery.

I've taken the test a few times for my own interest and I come out as either INFJ or ISFJ. I tend to have character traits which fit into both categories.

Thank you for your private message directing me to the test site. Apparently I'm a protagonist

ENFJ-A, and it's surprisingly accurate, and puts me in the same category as Barak Obama, and Opra Winfrey. Funny how I don't have the same respect for Megan though, who I'd personally sooner fight than fuck, than Opra seems to have.

Well if you are an INFJ man good on ya for admitting it. My friend is married to an INFJ. It took her ages to get him to take a personality test. He is so mysterious and deep. They have been married ten years and she is still finding hidden talents and abilities of his. She has sworn me to secrecy as he hates his achievements and talents being told. It's weird as he is not a shy bloke.

I've done a couple of "personality tests" through work (for some reason) and I've found that you get put in to a different box depending on how you feel at the time of filling it out, so I don't put too much faith in them

No thats the problem

INFJ are the rarest personality type and to me the most amazing. INFJ guys are more rare still than INFJ women and value their privacy even more. So these blokes usually dont reveal much of their true fascinating selves until they are actually in a relationship.

So frustrating

Exactly this.

I studied the Myers one as part of a management course.

The outcome for these is very much dependent on how I am feeling at the time, so the results vary.

I am not at all comfortable with personality tests being used as part of an interview process.
