We all have different opinions when it comes to politics but do you thing you should be open about them when arranging NSA? I saw a girl the other day here profile states "i'm a lefty " for me that would put me off as i think someone who has to state it on a profile would be more likely to spout off and shut down those whos views are not the same. What are your thoughts fabbers?

If I'm broadly on the same page as someone I can skip the awkward moments and have a nice time.

Zipping it while people prattle on about God knows what is not my idea of fun.

"Maybe she meant, her hand? "

I was just going to say that maybe she means she's left handed.

I do think that some people are very vociferous about their views and it's probably best that you know if you're likely to be at odds with each other. We'd struggle with someone who leaned a long way to the right for instance and made their views clear.

There are certain political views that we're very uncomfortable about. For us the social side of swinging is at least as important as the sexual, so we are highly likely to find out each other's political views in conversation. Politics can contribute to us not getting on with somebody so we'd rather find out if there's anything like that fairly early on while getting to know people.

I'm no fan of talking politics anyway, but I think its more a case of whether someone can hold a sensible, reasonable appropriate conversation rather than the actual topic. I wouldn't class myself as very politically minded but if the discussion goes that way and its light and interesting then I'm happy to go along. If it becomes something more like a rant, or goes like many of the vaccine threads, where some people just insist its all a conspiracy, that they will do and believe as they please, and label anyone who choses to do and believe something else 'sheeple', then it's probably time to tap out.

... Or maybe just find another more fun way to stop them talking

For me it has nothing to do with what party I may or may not vote for, it’s a more fundamental point about values. Being in a few different minorities myself, if someone is bigoted towards minorities then I won’t feel safe or comfortable with them. It’s as simple as that.

If they feel strongly about a thing then I would rather they say it upfront as it can save a lot of aggravation.

I prefer to keep my political opinions between me and the ballot paper and try to get on with most people the majority of the time regardless of which side of the house they vote for. I know these days it's difficult though especially with social media giving everyone a soapbox to shout from and so many feeling the need to constantly wear their opinions on their sleeve.

I have noticed the same on Tinder, 999 out of a 1000 times it's somone on the "left" saying no tories ect

Just shows me who the actual intolerant ones are tbh

I think most of these people dont even unnderstand that life is nuanced anyway and just saying you are left/right really doesnt mean much as most sane people have views that could be considered both left and right depending on the subject.

People here may think i am right wing because im pro gun and dislike idenity politics. But im pro NHS and Welfare state.

I think alot of people think just saying they are left wing means they are "nice people" when in reality they have not got a clue

I have met people that wave soviet flags but have not got a clue who Stalin was for example

So for me this is a really interesting question, OP and it is not straight forward.

I do not have a problem with people being of a different political persuasion; it is far more about their values, which are often linked to politics and vice versa.

To use one example if I may: The old question about Brexit/ Remain would have very much been a deciding factor in meeting or not meeting. As a then Remainer, it was not about the other person being a leaver but about their reasons for being one. If it was about believing the EU needed revamping I could accept that. If it was about racism and xenophobia (the Farage stuff) then I would not have considered that person for an intimate meeting.

Values are important to me and they underpin so much of who we are - and who we are not. xx

It's funny you say this but I've had enough socials ruined by having to awkwardly smile as someone makes comments about "benefit scroungers", Romanian people, political correctness gone mad, etc. I'd rather put these types off early than waste both our time. I also enjoy the company of those I can have a deep discussion with. I have a particular fab friend who has very different politics to me and its never been a barrier to our friendship as we respect each others views and enjoy the debate. Anyone who is going to say "eww, loony leftie snowflake" is precisely the type I am looking to put off by putting it on my profile so it's doing its job.

"It's funny you say this but I've had enough socials ruined by having to awkwardly smile as someone makes comments about "benefit scroungers", Romanian people, political correctness gone mad, etc. "

Yup.

Or the ones who want to "educate" me and help me see the light.

If I wanted an education I'd ask

The problem is the word politics

People assume you mean socialist, facist, communism etc..

Politics is your opinion, it’s just that..

The political parties are just groups who you can align yourself with that May match your own beliefs and views...

It’s annoying when people say “ ooh don’t talk politics to me thank you...”

But it’s all about your own personal opinions, if you can’t raise your own voice to say how you feel about something, then we are in trouble!!

So I’m just trying to establish how political opinions work...
