What is the best or worst "mistaken" purchase you have made?

You know, where you get dragged in by the middle isle of certain places?

Or just distracted by pretty things!

For example, I went for an ironing board cover and returned with a peace lily!

Took my granddaughter with me to the garden centre yesterday, to buy a bag of compost, came home with new wellies for her, a butterfly than is solar powered, and flowers she liked, she is 2 yrs god help me when she gets older

Went to a farm auction to buy a scythe, drove back home with the scythe on a vintage tractor I had ended up buying.

I used to have a terrible compulsion on buying horses

Bought some good ones amongst the nightmares

Best one was a Shetland which I picked up for the kids when they were little, she’s still going at a neighbour’s place aged over 30

While on leave from Afghan at aged 17 I went in to a Toyota garage to view the new MR2 which was my dream car at the time ! I had no intention of buying the car but I wanted to see what I would cost me so I discussed the price with the sales man, the next thing I new I had a test drive. The next morning i noticed the car had been sold and continued walking past the window when the sales man came running out to say I can pick the car up in two weeks and I was £12,000 in debt. The worst part was I had to go back to Afghan two days before the car was ready and I didn’t get to drive it for 8 months, all my wages had to pay for the dam thing & my older brother used to send me pictures of him driving it. The moral to this story and the lesson I learned was be carefully of what you dream for and never make a decision in the heat of the moment and definitely not when your all excited. But did I take my own advice and listen ! No I got married in exactly the same way !! That was a Disaster as well. Now I listen !!

Not quite an accidental but more an embarrassed one.

Was on holiday with the wife years ago and we ended up in a fossil shop, sure they have a proper name, wife was quite taken by one she saw and I thought how good value it was for £25 especially considering the size of it.

Had it packed and then the guy behind the counter came out with the actual price, I'd completely misread the price and not saying how much it actually was as that would be a bit embarrassing bit it was a hell of a lot more than the £25 I thought it was.

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

In the 1980s,on the advice of some friends, I took a holiday in The Gambia, one piece of information they offered was that there were no scales in the airport to weigh any excess baggage.

Acting on this information I went into Banjul the capitol and purchased a large suitcase and then went round the markets buying Gambian wood carvings.

Departure day came and I duly dragged my case full of carvings onto the minibus and set out for the airport. On arrival I headed for the check in and what should I see but a gleaming set of brand new scales apparently delivered two days earlier, Cost of excess baggage £180

Funny enough, I had one like that. I bought a Jag XJ sport for spares for £200 as the tyres were worth that, and I thought that I would just chance it up for MOT before breaking it up. To my amazement, £45 plus the MOT the first year, and £60 plus the MOT the second year so I kept it for a spare car, then got £180 for scrap. I now claim to be the only guy who has ever run a Jag for two years at £10 a year depreciation. As for registration numbers, thereby hangs another couple of tales.

Yeh i wasnt a pet person and was going to return him but after about 20 mins we were inseparable he was such a amazing character

Several years ago, I once bought what was thought to be a chez lounge for one of the dogs. A little boozy, I saw one online, for an absolute bargain at £4.99 so bought it straight away.
