Why is it that all other competitors wear the team uniform, but the gymnasts can get away with something spangly of their own choice?

Isn't it tradition for them to wear spangly outfits? Same as the synchronized swimmers, and the skaters at the winter Olympics. it's a pretty artistic discipline so maybe they are just given them to match? I think they're awesome
