tunes pipped to #1 by utter dross?

a post in an earlier thread reminded me how ELP’s fanfare for the common man was on course for #1 when it was pipped to the post by Boney M, then there was of course Ultravox’s Vienna pipped to the post by that classic song… Shaddap You Face !!

 

What other strong contenders can you recall not making #1 in the hit parade by being beaten by utter dross?

Common People by Pulp was also Kept off the top spot by Robson and Jerome! Those two have bloody lot to answer for!
