Had the privilege of being his groom for a day back in 2000. He said “while the wife’s doing her recording I’ll have a quick hack through the park”. Got us all beer and port to say thanks. Absolute legend of a gentleman.

So non-PC but an amazing servant to the country.

Personally i think he actually died a few weeks ago during his hospital stay when all the family visited.. due to restrictions funeral arrangements wouldn’t ever of been what they wanted..

restrictions due to lift therefore being able to have the kind of funeral they’d like with thousands gathered along the side of the road as they pass through...

They now announce his death?

Wonder how many of those thousands will adhere to social distancing

They now announce his death?

Wonder how many of those thousands will adhere to social distancing

The restrictions that were in place then in regards to Mass gatherings and funerals are still in place now until May 17th. "

Can I ask why we can't grieve for them all. You're stating covid deaths but what about all the deaths from cancer for example? Just because we are showing respect for someone does not mean we do not also mourn very deeply and personally for many others also. If you can only focus on one group of people at a time then that says more about you than anyone else.

I agree with you. There is more to it. I think he died in a tea cup accident whilst on a fishing expedition in the pyrenes. They got a body double to do the stay in hospital while they brought his dead body back to London via a series of underground tunnels.

Having the funeral now means that people will stop asking Boris things.

Good move.

"I'm not sure what it is exactly but I think from what iv read its like a military funeral. "

There aren't huge differences between state and ceremonial funerals - the former are usually reserved for the monarch or, at their request or that of parliament, for a national figure, eg., Winston Churchill received a state fumeral...

...ceremonial funerals do not require parliamentary debate or approval, and are usually for royalty, eg., HM The Queen Mother, or prominent statesmen/women, eg., Margaret Thatcher...

....the easiest way to visually tell the difference is that in a state funeral, the gun carriage bearing the coffin is pulled by sailors, whereas for a ceremonial, it is drawn by horse...

RIP Prince Philip.Although I am not a fan of the royals respect where it’s due he stood by the Queen for over 70 years and did above and beyond what was asked of him.Apparently he was strict with his sons when they were growing up and according to some may have ordered a hit on Princess Diana but there have been so many conspiracy about Princess Diana that maybe for another thread.Either way the Queen and lost her husband of over 70 years and my thoughts go out to her.

Today we bemoan the death of a human being who was brought up in wealth but ended up homeless, discovered his love for sea and gave it up to pursue marriage. He was a devoted husband of 70+ years, and yes - he could be rude, he could be impatient... just like the rest of us. I wouldn’t call myself a Royalist, but I definitely admired his hard work and commitment. Very good article on his life on the BBC news website entitled “Prince Philip: An extraordinary man who led an extraordinary life”. RIP.
