"why is it that the cycling events can only nominate 1 athlete per event per country due to them not wanting domination by 1 country yet in the athletics you can enter as many as you like ? 1 rule for 1 sport 1 for another? " because the federation for each sport set the rules... so for example the UCI set it for cycling... the IAAF for athletics... FIFA for football ect...

"UCI shot themselves in the foot with this 1 rider per nation per event in cycling!,swimming, rowing, athletics etc have finals with possibly 3-4 of one nation in that final but they were the best with qualifying to back it up!,like the 3 jamaicans in the 100 metres sprint yesterday. in cycling it does not mean the BEST actually get to the olympics even if you had a 1-2-3 in the world championships!,we could have had a GB 1-2 again like in beijing 2008 with hoy v kenny, getting more riders in cycling event would have been a lot better as they tried to stretch it over 6 days instead of 4 leaving it a wee bit sparse for the paying public. Was it done just because GB cyclists are cream of the crop i wonder?. " my thoughts exactly . seems strange a sport weve excelled in has these rules

"was it done just because GB cyclists are cream of the crop i wonder?. Heard that touted as a reason by the media sometime before the games started " yes,it's been touted a lot over the past 2 years as these games closed in,but in previous years different countries have enjoyed track success but not the dominance of GB,,germany, usa, italy, japan, holland have all enjoyed great success in a few disciplines but since lottery funding GB have really done well and are no longer the poor relations all riding different bikes and handing in the kit at the end of competitions, the money has been well invested all the way down from elite coaching down to coaching youth riders where dani king & laura trott emerged from.

" Just read up on this and its odd that one body can say one thing and another differently when they all end up with the same medals. " The Int'l Olympic Committee nor LOCOG are not responsible for decisions made on each sport - it is down to the governing body of the individual sport.. The olympics is more like a whole bunch of different sports agreeing to hold their sports fete at the same time

The irony is that there would be almost the same number of competitors. I fear that track cycling has a limited future in the Olympics.

"with the loss of the individual pursuit event at london 2012 GB riders rebecca romero & bradley wiggins lost the chance of retaining olympic titles won in beijing!,in fact it robbed wiggins the chance of a hat trick of individual pursit titles!. " Was the best thing that happened to Wiggins but sadly finished Romero off. And 4 years prior to that of course Hoy lost the event that he reigning champion the 1km.
