Isn't it draining when people only seem to have 3 or 4 stock sentences for conversation on here

What are you up to? Often reduced to wuu2?

I wanna play with you

Would you like that?

What would you do to me?

And repeat ad infinitum

Zzzzzzzzz

Any other key phrases that you get repeated?

Conversation is a little like warming up in tennis - you have to give a little something back in order to get what you want & vice versa: Plenty of folk here (men & women) seem to have forgotten this ...

Not really, I could talk the socks off ..someone with long socks??

When the conversation starts to flow, I love seeing it go in all sorts of directions.

Secret hideaway in the pennines

If I message someone, I try at least to be polite, respectful but most of all I try to tailor it so it shows I have read the profile.

If I get a reply, the maybe chat will turn to general conversation as we get to know each other.

If it's a no thanks, I will say thanks for the reply and delete

I agree. Conversation can be very short and dry on here... but one thing I don’t like is when a female’s profile says not to ask “how are you?” I mean, most conversations start with that! Don’t get me wrong, if that’s the only question in a message I can understand the annoyance but as part of a message... how’s that a bad thing?

Curious as to why asking this question seems so unacceptable? Sure, it's a little mundane but there is nothing offensive about it & maybe it could lead to a more interesting conversation?

Maybe you could suggest some questions that you'd prefer to receive, so other Fabbers can learn what's wanted?

I don't think it's a bad thing. If I'm feeling chatty, I'd engage with it

i agree it is draining but so is on the other side you spend 30 minutes typing a nice 400 word thoughtful, based on her/their profile, intro message avoiding all the phrases you quote and the reply you get is "Hi"

"How's fab treating you?", reply "it's what you make of it" to then get a moany reply about how no-one replies to them, stuck up people on here or so many fakes!

I'm like , I replied & am definitely not fake or stuck up.

I don't mind any opening message if they're polite, it's only if it's a regular same message eg "How are you?" That I get a bit fed up with

The opposite to circling around the same 4 phrases isn't a harvard referenced essay on swinging through a pandemic

I accept that most opening messages from different people are going to be similar but what I'm talking about here are the same guys just going round in circles! Boring.

I find mundanity quite offensive to be honest.

'How are you?' Is a non starter for me because it doesnt mean anything.

If I approach a friend who has been having a tough time then 'how are you?' Is heartfelt and meaningful but on a website where people have written profiles which point you in the direction of their interests and personality it is asinine.

Context and nuance are everything.

To be fair messages like those are great because it clearly shows that they are not a good fit for us therefore saving both parties time.

That’s cheating

I think that the key point is to be original or at least stay away from vague niceties.

As much as the questions are fine, as with anything, when you’ve been asked the same questions over and over again, it gets very frustrating and repetitive.

Excite the mind and the body will follow, has always been my mantra. While so may not want massive conversation the fact is that the mind is a powerful tool. Converse, discuss, learn, intrigue and entice.

Wirral.

If I like the look and profile of a guy who messages, I don't mind the "Hello, how are you?" type. I mean, it's what you'd usually open with in a social situation.

The problem is when I reply and then ask how they are, that I get one word answers back. It can be like dragging blood out of a stone!

We love a good convo, gives you an insight into the person you’re chatting to! If it’s us doing all the taking with just a yep or nope response, then I’m instantly not interested! I don’t mind someone asking how we are at all, but not as a first message! Miss PC xx

We’re finding something similar.

We always try and ask inquisitive non generic (sometimes it can’t be helped) messages but on some occasions it feels like the conversation is one way.

The people who have the fake profiles put in more effort than the legit ones some times

As a single female, I appreciate what a lucky position I am to have so much choice on this site. I am not critical to opening messages. Crude approaches make me cringe, but accept I am on a sex site.

It's when I look at the senders blank profile that makes me sigh. A generic 'hi I'm seeking the same as you', is really difficult to take further when they have no photo, no interests, cannot travel, cannot accommodate, and a couple of words 'looking for fun'.

"Well conversation is a two way street. "

Yes...and when you try to converse with someone stick in the 'hey, wuu2, hey, would love to meet you, hey, wuu2.....' cycle it is very frustrating.

As soon as you try to point out you would like an actual conversation their brains implode and they go quiet on you.

The hate for text speak I totally understand. But how should someone message someone else on here.

A lot of the things which seem to annoy many are in my eyes just general Ice breaker questions.

Such as

How are you or what have you been up to?

Can anyone offer a decent effort ?

Please

They maybe general ice breakers but they show no thought or that you are looking at the person you are messaging as an individual.

Most women get hundreds of messages a day and generally they all consist of your "ice breakers".

Hundreds of "how are you?' or "what you up to?" messages get very boring and we don't tend to respond.

Try reading their profile and ask a question about what you have read to show you are taking an interest and not just messaging generic questions to random people in the hope of a reply.
