Can the grief process for the death of a beloved pet, particularly a dog, be as painful as for the death of a close relative.

Not quite as intense but it's very similar similar. I think it depends on your relationship with the dead person and the pet

There is a pet bereavement counselling service, I think its run by the Blue Cross x

It is , your pet is your pal they are family. Its coming up to 2 years since Pooch went ahead to wait for me .

I miss him every day, i talk to him when i go on qhat were our favourite walks .

Absolutely, I lost my Rottie last August and have never felt heartbreak like it.

Yes. I have three cats left. The last one that died i had a special bond with it broke my heart. Shes been gone over two years now and i still cant replace her.

For some people it will.

It depends on the relationship you had with deceased friends or relatives.

I've lost many beloved pets but I can't see the pain of losing my mum ever exceeded.

Losing our dog was so painful. I have nothing to compare that with but it was enough that 5 years later I still don't want to experience that again. Sure we have got on with our lives but he is never forgotten as he was part of our family and I still miss him often x

I booked a week off work when I lost girl dog. Working with the public there's every chance I'd have done something unacceptable so knew I needed some space and time.

I still weep for her now and it's been a year and half

Yes. I lost my baby a month or so ago and it hurt as much if not more than when my parents died .

Absolutely, it's one of the most heartbreaking things saying goodbye to your dog. I've done it once and I can't imagine doing it again. My beautiful pup is my life, unless you have that bond yourself it's hard to explain to others

Until I had experienced it then I would have said no. But when I lost my precious cat it knocked me for six.

If you raise and train an animal, spend love and time on it, make it part of your family, you are always going to mourn that loss. You'll have lost a family member.

Yes, we've been through this twice now and the last was really painful. When they are with you constantly for 12 to 14 years its impossible not to feel the loss and hole they leave.

I think so, my beloved doggo left for her rainbow bridge a year ago on Thursday. I miss her terribly still. The grieving process for me has hit me hard, far worse than for some relatives but no where near as much as others! All are different x

For me it was worse. I’ve still not got over the loss of my beloved bulldog. He was my constant companion for 13 years. The emptiness in the house has taken a long time to get used to.

It’s a unique pain.

Ohh my goodness yes it does, I had my poochie for 16 1/2 years, it will be 11 years on the 28th May some days I can look at her picture and smile, other days I cannot as it's tears if I do. She gave me unconditional love, always there to give a furry cuddle when down or up set, always there tail wagging and some one to go on long walks with...Miss my poochie!!

Over my lifetime I've lost 6 dogs and yes you grieve for each and every one of them. They were all part of the family and all at least 10 years old and all dearly loved.
