The Benchmark Kennels group have drawn up a list of most stolen dogs and advice on how to reduce the risk.. advice includes varying your dog walk times and routes. Never leave a dog tied outside a shop or in a vehicle with the windows open.. it also gives prices for the most valuable pups..

Dog thefts up 170% in a year..

Police recovered 83 stolen dogs from a traveller camp in Essex. My advice. Never buy a pedigree. Get a Heinz 57 and you won't go far wrong. Don't be another victim...

Our local area Facebook group has been publicising the fact dognappers are in the area. They suggested using the chain leads as opposed to the nylon extendable ones that could be cut through easily and not to leave dogs unattended in easy access gardens.

Anyone who steals a dog away from his/her family - well there are no words for this type of person and I hope what goes around comes around 10 times worse for them.

Yet most police forces in the country have reported no increase in dog theft, they have had an increase in potential dog thieves staking out the area in white vans reported on Faceache, and once it's on faceache it must be true most were found to be amazon delivery drivers etc. There's also an increased reporting of dog thieves marking areas for a later raid, saw dust sprinkled around lamp posts and gates, coloured stickers appearing on junction boxes, cable ties being found attached to something etc etc, all turned out to be total bollocks. Social media is the bain of our lives, trouble is most people who read these things take it as gospel and don't question its authenicity

It absolutely breaks my heart that people will do this. Dogs the family and I can’t imagine my life without mine, or not knowing where they are...

I have no words for these types of people. The heartache the families must go through thinking of what's happening to them. Its cruel beyond all levels! All we can do is keep our pups as safe as we can and try not to give these people any opportunities to take them

The guardian did an article on this a few weeks back, their number one bit of advice was to not share your pets on social media. We have cats not dogs but I would be devastated if one were to go missing, it’s like losing one of the family.

We need to educate people that dog napping isn’t ok. We need to teach children in school that you shouldn’t steal dogs.

If you see someone walking their dog maybe consider crossing the road so they don’t feel scared that you’ll steal their dog. And definitely don’t stare at peoples dogs no matter how cute they are because someone might find that a threat.

Overall we just need to change society’s views on dognapping and let everyone know that’s it’s not ok, it’s not acceptable and it won’t be tolerated

Every time I go on Facebook there seems to be people reporting their dogs have been stolen. I believe they are been stolen in order to breed puppy’s then sell them on.Also some are probably been used for dog baiting or dog fighting which is quite popular amongst certain nationalities lots of money changes hands and the organisers are the ones that clean up.

It seems everyday my wife comes across new posts about this is our area. I've seen images of people having been threatened with and attacked with knives. They definitely come equipped to simply cut the lead.

Where we tend to walk, it's wooded and quite a number of elderly people take their dogs. I was chatting to a lady the other day who had no idea it was going on.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen, she is the very type of person to be targeted.

I really feel that the police or councils should be putting up signs at the very least so that people are aware of what's going on.

It's very individual depending on the age when regimes, the history and whether they've been mistreated and to what extent..

Lots of learning with each one, patience and trust building..

So worth it though..

Law needs changing to include animals, if caught stealing a animal it should be same punishment as kid nap ping a human. Same with injury done to animals same as attempted murder.

It's not a black and white thing. One of my dogs is a rescue and has severe separation anxiety. The other suffers fear aggression towards strangers and needs very careful handling.

One of my mums dogs needs daily medication or she will die.

Some dogs will adjust fairly quickly, but most don't in my experience.

My dog was stolen 7 months ago from a dog walker it's honestly heartbreaking it's no different to someone taking your child he was 8 at the time been with me since a pup words can't explain since the pandemic dogs that were 400 are now 3k it's ridiculous he is microchipped so have been hoping he will come back home

Ohh that's so awful for you all and I hope your son is coping Ok with out him, I also hope you do get him back very soon. I watched the 'Yorkshire vet' and a dog went missing then found and returned to the owner and her family 6 years later....all the staff at the vets where crying and so was I...the dog instantly recognized the owner. Dogs do go through a stage of grieving too.

Unless it's a data blip then over 100 stolen dogs recovered by police within 30 miles of my home in the last 10 days..

Who buys these stolen dogs or are they sent abroad...

8 puppies in the latest haul and many not well..

Any thieves ultimately bring misery and discomfort on their victims, no matter who they are, their wealth, or standing in society.

In the past I've let a couple of people into ma flat who have "sticky finger syndrome", it makes ma blood boil sometimes
