..... gonna stand on a chair and give mine a clip round the ear!

He's been sent to his room for arguing with me..... over his school uniform of all things.

He can't understand why I'll pay £150 for a school blazer but not £72 for a Ghost cycling jacket.

Titch goes to a local Academy and they insist on school blazers.... he's refusing to wear one because he thinks they are naff. Wants this cycle jacket which he'll wear to pose when BMX'ing and not to school .... he thinks I'm zipped up the back!

The land of grey peas and bacon

I remember I wanted a pair of nike trainers for P.E but my mum insisted on buying me dunlop green flash trainers as it was on the list of things needed. I have to say I was the only one in a bloody pair of them and they were like £60. I remeber the Nike trainers being £40. I remember being so badly bullied A. for being the fat kid and B for having dunlop green flash. The school advised my mother to buy the Nike trainers. My mum did in the end but was so angry at the school for putting it on the list.. I hated school.. I hated the uniform..

He's just gone into third year and can't get uniform to fit, I have to buy him men's shirts and trousers, size 12 shoes. We still have another three years of this. I try to buy what he needs from ASDA's as it's cheap and cheerful.

And the school uniform could only be purchased from Harrods!

awwww Diamondgurly, sucks you didnt enjoy school or the uniform

I thought our school uniform was well dapper - Navy blazer, White shirt, Navy v neck jumper (in winter as well as the blazer), Silver and Navy tie, Knee high grey socks (summer) or Black tights. We had to wear Grey knee length (rolled up ) skirts... was a pain even in the rain/snow/hail we couldnt wear trousers

I still have issues steaming back from my school days its only now so many years on that I am devloping my confidence and self esteem... Arghhh anyway back to the thread...

it was always made clear to me that i was welcome to stay at home as long as I wanted to but was given some very strict rules to abide by (no one in the house xcept by appointment, no drinking on my own amongst others.) I soon moved out to enjoy my freedom......

The 2 village 'paper boys' are in their 60's and 20's respectively ..... easier to get into Eton than get a paper round here!

I'm pushed to find work locally so he's got little chance.

I feel for you. My son is/was the same- in 4 years we had 6 blazers- wool, colours, badge etc. He's 6'4 now and hopefully stopped growing now he is 17. When he got his sporting colours, I didn't know whether to be happy for his achievment or cry because the blazers would now be unique and would cost me another £50 with every new one, making it about £200!

Still... gotta love 'em.

How can they insist... What if the parents can't afford....what then?

Every area that a school covers will have wealthy parents, not so wealthy and those, that coud put the money to better use, like food or bills....

£35 mentioned by another is reasonable but £150... Get tae fuck. They should give you the colour, style and let you buy the badges to sew on any blazer, or give a choice of two or three blazers ranging from cheap to stupid.

At the end of the day, they are kids... And the blazer will get damaged.... Kids have no idea of value.

Well I have an issue too re uniform, the school have amalgamated with another one and have changed their name and completely changed their uniform, the rules state from year 10 down they have to wear the new unform - years 11 upwards can wear whatever they like, yeah ure all way ahead, mine is year 10 so have to fork out for a complete uniform for one year only

I truly don't mean to rub it in but the school my son went to (just finished yr11) did have a uniform but no blazer. I'm told that about 7yrs ago the parents were complaining about the cost of blazers and so the Board of Governors decided on a sweatshirt with the school badge embroidered on it instead.

Now, there was me thinking, yay, no more school uniform but he wants to be a chef and instead of a school uniform, I've got to fork out for uniform and equipment for Catering College, with the knife set alone coming in at around £400 and that's before the chef's whites, aprons, safety shoes, etc, etc.

I suppose it's my turn to have to fork out the silly money for college as I've had it relatively easy with school.

Oh well, c'est la vie
