Thinking of switching from sports cars to 4X4s for my next car. Dont want to spend a fortune. Dont like the size and shape of any of them except Range Rover Evoke. But hear they are unreliable. Any advice welcome. Thanks.

My ex sales manager had one, the sat nav was shite, it also broke down a few times too. Are you looking at new or used? Buy or lease?

Friend has a 14 plate evoke, not had any trouble with it other than what you’d expect from a 7 yo car although it’s low mileage, less than half the avg.

I have a Jag F-Pace, love it, highly recommend from my experience

Also, last year, before I bought the Jag I ended a 3 year lease of a 17 plate Nissan Quasqui. Only got it as I needed something cheap and immediately available. Quite frankly it was sensational

That's good to know. I can be persuaded by Jag F and E paces.

It does depend on how much you want to spend. Avoid anything with a wankel engine! Lol

No chance with Quasqui. Something about them I hate. Could be even the name

Thanks mate. I won't be doing any offroading in it. Don't want to cause any paintwork damage etc. Need to get me out of bit of snow mud etc that's all.

Ok cool. I can imagine they being bit wobbly when cornering etc.

I always buy ford 4x4 trucks for daily use american variants though (f150 petrol) cannot fault them at all. The new rangers are very troublesome engine wise. Personally id not be buying a diesel if buying new though. Hold out and wait for EV.

I know it's my personal preference but you'd be better off with a van if your not using it for off roading.

It's a lot more value for money Plus you can kit it out how you want.

My other choice was Porsche Cayenne hybrid.

Lots of power. For a big car.

Depends on your budget. £30k for a 3 year old car (£90k new).

In that case go with the F. I drive both before I bought, diesel F, petrol E. believe it or not the F is light and felt more agile. Compared, the E felt like driving through sand.

I know what you mean OP, and as I said I was kinda forced into the choice, but I will say there wasn’t a day in the 3 years I regretted the decision. Doesn’t have much image, but I knew why it’s the biggest selling SUV.

I'm a pick up truck girl! Always been my dream car, got one 2016. Nothing she can't do!

I'm not a speed girl, I'm not paying for a track day, so as long as it gets to 70mph I'm happy.

Yes my man! And agree Ford Ranger is horrible to drive! Wish I could have afforded an American pick up (or a Mustang)

I used to drive RR Vogues and Sports, and Discoverys for work. Great when they worked, but for such expensive cars they were in the workshop a lot.

Get yourself a hilux.

Hilux ~ proper bloke vehicle.

Get a red one and put a few dents in it and some empty fag packets on the dash.

As a pure Landrover girl, the Evoke is not a Landrover . Landrovers shifts stuff eg pull great big trailers. They live in mud, leak at least a pint of oil a week and can carry 7 people plus payload.

Evokes cry at the sight of a puddle and can only be used for school runs if you have 2 children max.

Have a look at Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V60 Cross Country.

Both are effectively estate cars but jacked up a bit higher, 4 wheel drive, decent MPG and oddly both are very nice to drive. Both have been out a few years now so should be good second hand values.

Or a Hilux, but that'd a slightly different option

My mum had a Hyundai Santa Fe 4 x 4 - was lovely to drive and comfy on long car journeys and a big boot which carried a fold down mobility scooter (a big bulky one) on many occasions so plenty of space.

Have you not considered an X3 or X5, perhaps M sport if you don't want to sacrifice power?

Decent performance, good reliabilty and practical. That said, unless necessary, personally I wouldn't move away from a sports car.

Why not buy a proper 4 x 4 like an Isuzu d-max. Then it can be used for what 4 x 4's where intended for.
