Jam first.....it's easier to spread the cream on the Jam.

No cream at all, just butter then jam. And scone rhymes with gone, it is known.

We would often spend our evenings driving down to Plymouth, go to the end of the Tamar Bridge and shout across ‘Its cream before the jam!’ And then wait for the reply of ‘No it fuckin’ ain’t!’. Then we shout back ‘Tis!’ Then they shout back ‘Tis fuckin not!’

It think I put jam in first, but as long as cream and jam is piled on a warm scone, who cares?

Neither. Just butter and it has to be a sultana one not a Devonshire scone.

Simple solution

Jam on one half

Cream on the other

And never the twain shall meet

Has to be a fruit scone (I pronounce scon, like gone, not scoan, like phone), plain or cherry scones do nothing for me.

Jam then cream, jam goes on easier than cream, the jam always seems to fall off the top of I do cream first.

Yum!

Butter, jam then cream here.

The order doesn't matter so much to me though. Using seperate knives and spoons is what counts.

Well as a cream tea (with clotted cream) is actually cornish then the only way is jam on first ... end of!

Ruislip

It depends on the thickness of the cream and the thickness of the jam. It's easiest to spread if the thickest one goes on first followed by the less thick one. Get it the wrong way round and you get a mess.

"Jam first then cream and say it skon not skoan"

It has an e at the end...surely that makes it scone rhymes with bone and alone etc etc

The English language and pronunciation is a mess. It's all regional anyway.

Durham

Jam first then lashings of cream. I would struggle to spread jam over lashings of cream.

As someone else has said, it's scone as in gone.
