Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

What's happened? I step away from the Olympics (foolishly thinking it might be over for today) and I've missed something.

We should have had a team that was made up of our best footballers not just the ones a few teams thought they could spare....then it wouldnt have gone to pens

Manchester

Could only play 3 over 23's so couldn;t have all best players, and most of our best U23's couldn't play due to injury or Euro commitments - that said, we should be able to beat South Korea!!

The biggest worry for me is that our keepers don't seem to have any idea how to unsettle the opposition, standing still pulling tongues just doesn't do it, both Butland and Hart never looked like saving a pen!!

"We should have had a team that was made up of our best footballers not just the ones a few teams thought they could spare....then it wouldnt have gone to pens"

unfortunately because its not FIFA ranked tourney, the could not enforce the release players clause so it was down to te clubs to decide the squad, not the manager.

Because Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland all have separate teams, and UEFA/FIFA would love to have us unite as other countries are miffed at "regions" having their own national football teams. It risks the soverienty of my national team, and i could not bring myself to support "team GB", yet i was fine supporting the other athletes.

I found it easy to put aside the local historic rivallries between the British Nations but I've ever viewed it as friendly banter between the tribes. The UK govt would never allow FIFA to dictate how the UK nations should compete on the world stage, and tbh, it's got fook all to do with Blatter and his corrupt cronies.

For these 17 days we've all been British first and foremost and after the games we can go back to our friendly rivallry safe in the knowledge that these islands contain ONE people. British.

(I know in past posts I may not have been as supportive of Britishness as I should have been but the Games has shown me how wrong I was)

It warms the cockles of my heart to see your parentheses! As Mo said when questioned last night, 'this is my country'.
