Obviously Organ donation link above is only for residents in Scotland but the write-ups may be of interest to others.

I had to look up to see if one still gets Organ Donation cards.

OF COURSE you can download one nowadays and print yourself

Duh!

Its an opt out system.

Opt out or donate. Our choice.

I have mixed feelings about it.

"Its an opt out system.

Most people don't even give it a thought, so that's at least something prompting conversation if one considers opting out?

I do think about opting out but I cannot rationalise that thought in my head. I probably won't opt out through sheer laziness. Besides..... there won't be anything of me that is useable if I die today , never mind in 10 short years or so .....

It's still a choice so folk can if they want to opt out. when you talk about it with most people they are all in favour of organ donation but keep forgetting to sign up or can't be bothered. This is the perfect solution, I would take it further and for those who opt out they also forfeit the right to recieve an organ if they ever needed one. Those who do feel against it should spend a day in a childrens/youth hospital full of kidsa and young adults waiting for donors then see if they still against organ donation.

Apologies

I should have been clearer.

In Scotland now you have to opt out, rather than opt in.

The BBC news link does state that line 1 but I should have too.

You can still register with Organ Donation for "yes",which over 50% of Scots apparently have, which hopefully would make conversations with family easier.

You can specify what they can use or "use anything"

I have no mixed feelings about this, it's a good thing. Everyone has the choice to opt out, but this will increase the availability of organs for those desperately waiting for transplants.

Those who care will opt out. Those who don't care, but who would have previously forgotten to opt in, will be able to help someone when they die.

Happy days.
