So follow up from last night's rather late Disco thread I'm now strutting through my kitchen to Adam and the Ants "Prince Charming" so earlier than before... What 80s classics would you like to see revamprd and brought into the modern era....

Which itself was inspired by Frankie Valli's Rag Doll. People have been updating and revamping (and in some cases stealing) material for years.

I did delete my post before your response for a few reasons

- I realised it wasn't actually what the OP was asking when I saw his previous thread.

- I also realised I was being a curmudgeon (what a fantastic word that is) because I do love some covers/revamps of modern classics like Hounds of Love.

I don't think being inspired by is quite the same as revamping/covering music Esty but you are right regarding the material usage.

Thing is people of a certain age (me included) champion the 80s as being "the" era for music - but there was a lot of woeful shite around then too - post 86 or 87 was mostly taken over by the awful karaoke stuff of Stock, Airmen and Waterman and soaps stars becoming pop stars (and yeah Kylie was ok - but didn't really come into her own musically until the 90s) and the rise of the boy band and worse.

Then you have the fact the 80s was probably the last era of the novelty record and the direst of one hit wonders - Fiddlers Dram, St Winfreds School Choir, The Tweets and more.

Of course there was Two Tone, the end of New Wave and the Mod revival and then the rise of "baggy" towards the end of the decade, New Romantics and Electronic too but I think we do look back on it with rose tinted glasses at times.

As for updating anything - that's what music has always done, people have covered, or taken a sound and put their own spin on it - even in the 80s covers of 60s songs or songs inspired by earlier bands were vogue, just as happens now with people taking influence from the 80s and beyond.
