I recently fell in love with the aesthetics of Japanese rope bondage(Shibari) and was wondering how many people on here like and enjoy such kink.

I would love to hear some opinions.

I think it looks lovely. I've only been tied like that once which I really enjoyed. It's very erotic but you have to 100% trust someone to do that with you.

Always on the look out for a local, experienced rigger

Somewhere off the edge of the map... 'ere there be monsters

Love rope bondage and think shibari is stunning. Definitely towards the top of my kink list. Trying to find a teacher / mentor has been difficult, however. Even prior to covid.

I’m one! I had few good and not very good experiences , wasn’t too advanced tho so hoping to experience more post-lockdown.

Definitely trust & knowledge is essential for me as it can be intensely sensual but could also be painful if you are not comfortable or not done it with right mind

I've had the pleasure of being tied up more than once by a very experienced guy. It felt amazing. It looked good too. I've never posted the pictures weirdly.

I was also taken out with rope under my clothing too.

It's definitely something I'll repeat.

So many styles and ways of doing rope, but like so much find what you enjoy and give it a go.

Yes there are “set ties”, but free flowing rope can be just as sensual or sadistic.

Just remember SSC/RACK/PRICK

It may look easy, but the potential for harm is always there.

Being tied properly by someone that knows what they're doing is a different class. Almost transcendent as the rope gradually get tighter

Ha ha! Yes it was on Harry Hill.

It was some late night channel 4 thing and I had little awareness of bdsm at the time (and only a little experience now) but I remember it really capturing my imagination. And gave me a hard on.

I remember that one of the practitioners interviewed was a gay man but the models were women. In any case, I wish I’d picked up a little bit more on that as a clue to being just a touch submissive back then...

There was a sense that British tv in the 90s and 2000s was beginning to explore sex in an interesting way. I found myself watching that kind of thing a lot while not really thinking it was for me.

Just make sure you have a way of getting them off in a hurry.

I picked up some asps which the police use to cut cable cuffs. I tried snips and knives, but found you may not always have room to use them safely if you are close to the skin.

I find them easier to use and as the blade is protected I don’t have to worry about any slippage leading to poked skin.

I have 1 set in my first aid kit, and then 1 set stashed with each pack of cable cuffs.

I then have backup snips and other cutting tools.

It helps save my safety shears.

I love rope and for me it's almost like meditation. I'm usually really good with words but I find it difficult to explain exactly why I find it so mentally nutritious. Even looking at photos of shibari relax me. At one point I had a few hundred photos of riggers and models in various stages of suspension or restraint. Thank you tumbler.

I am mostly a functional restrainer. Tie this hand to this leg ect.

With the lockdown I have fallen out of practice. I must get practicing again. Thanks OP this has been a good reminder for me. Also thank you to the posters. Your photos are quite stimulating lol

I'm ashamed to say I'm still only competent at single and double column ties. I used to be able to do a chest tie many moons ago but haven't practiced in so long that I'll practically be a virgin again.

I like the theory and outcomes of shibari. I have learned to make handcuffs from rope but i haven't taken the time to learn much more. #onthelist A workshop would be great but one in London doesn't fit in with my weekly commitments. Saying that i might see if i can book a weekend with my other half for a more immersible experience. #googling.

A good experienced rigger will know how navigate round this and give you a pleasurable experience. Just be open and honest about your issues so they can give you the best possible experience. "

Thanks

If your competent with a single and double limb cuff, the rope work is your oyster! A basic chest harness is just a bigger single limb cuff.

Remember you can alway remove the ropes in a slow sensual manner (unless there's a problem!). So many people ignore the removing of the ropes, trying to take them off as quick as possible at the end of a scene!

Don't jolt someone back to reality, let them float back there on their own and in their own time

So often with rope, being bound is only a part of it, the feel of the rope and the emotions you can generate applying and removing it are what really count

Really nice to see a shibari conversation on fab. I am really missing rope studios during lockdown and can’t wait to get back to rigging again. It’s such a lovely versatile way to connect and play. Maybe soon....

Your welcome, remember some riggers will really appreciate the opportunity to work out solutions for you as it gives them an opportunity to grow as well

I once had a shibari rope dress fitted. I can honestly say it was one of the most intimate "play" times I ever experienced with my then Dom. It was a thing of beauty x

Yes yes yes. I love this. It looks wonderfully intimate but haven’t tried it yet. I’m going to attend some courses/classes to learn how to tie this way once they’re up and running again.

There are some great classes you can attend with experienced riggers. Obviously not running at the moment but hopefully soon!

Lots of stuff is running on line, but if face to face is your preferred way to learn, classes should be returning soon

It looks amazing but I'm unsure what the motivation is? Is it the pleasure from being restrained and restraining? Is it a different experience from other forms of bondage? I'm just curious about others' experiences.

Whats the motivation for most things? Because you like it and want to do it.

There is no one true way to do ropes, but for me the fact it can be brutal or sensual, it can be used to do as much or as little as you like, there is a connection between you and your partner unlike any other BDSM activity.

Being tied, it can be the comfort akin to a weighted blanket, the flying feeling os suspension, the pain of sadistic ropes, the excitement of being restrained in positions hard to replicate with any other medium.

You may find it more useful to watch some of the rope tutorials on youtube.

While YouTube is a good source, just like all things there are good and bad ones. My suggestion is view videos from those that discuss safety issues/risks.

It is deemed as edge play for reason as you can damage nerves very easily if you place rope in the wrong place.

Yes finding a person / rigger you can trust at both levels is vital. So is a bunny who tells you what she is experiencing. It’s a journey... but at the same time a sexy shuka hushi body suit at an event is smokin hot too

When it comes to single and double limb cuffs you always have yourself to practice on!

Tension of rope takes a while to get used to so practicing on yourself gives you a head start
