Ive been working 6/7 days 14-16 hours a day since Christmas. Im absolutely bloody shattered last nights the first night ive not had a bottle of red for months, i feel flipping fantastic & fresh at work today.

How often do you drink? Do you feel better when you have a night off?

October was the last time I had a beer.

I have d*unk more during lockdown mainly due to boredom. If I open a bottle I will empty it.

However I don’t drink every night and I definitely feel better the next day when I don’t.

I don’t really drink. But hubby realised he was drinking too much during lockdown. Just a few bottles a night but more than your average binge drinker.

He said that when ‘putting your recycling out feels like a walk of shame’ then it’s time to curb it. So back to a few on non-school nights only x

I probably drink once a week, I'll open a bottle of wine on the weekend. I find drinking on work nights makes my next day less fun

Maybe once every 6 months? I always feel crap the next day, even after 1 glass of wine, so I don't bother.

Been about 14 years since I (mr) last had a drink. Don’t miss it at all now.

Mrs has the odd drink at the weekend and has a few more on nights out but it’s not a regular thing.

the abyss

I made a concious effort to only drink at the weekends when I had to start working from home.

I could see how easy it would be for me to start drinking earlier and earlier in the day and and before I know it I'd be having gin with my cornflakes

So in answer to your question - I don't feel a huge amount of difference - although I definitely feel heavy headed after a fair amount of red wine

thats some hours

I wouldn't normally drink at home but since losing my job, moving house and recovering from an op in the space of 6 months, I'm starting to drink at home on the weekends. Need to be a bit careful it doesn't turn into more than that

Manchester(ish).

I gave up alcohol completely last January. Best decision I ever made. All my low lying anxiety went at the same time.

For what it's worth, for anyone worried about their drinking. Lay off the booze for 100 days and see how you feel.

Have a fab weekend all.

K

Mr works similar long shifts to yourself and hardly ever drinks. He doesn't feel the want or need for alcohol.

We may occasionally share a bottle of red with a nice meal but that's it.

We do enjoy drinks when in the company of friends or on a night out ourselves.

Pleased you are feeling fresh this morning OP.

I'm not a big drinker & very rarely drink in the house it's no fun drinking alone.. the odd time I fancy a beer if I've had a stressful day, but don't have alcohol in the house so by the time I've had to go to the shop I think sod it & make do with a cuppa instead! : D

I got in to drinking too much for about a year after my wife died but got it under control and only drank weekends in moderation after that.

When lockdown started I got into brewing my own beer and it turned out pretty good so i fell in to the trap of drinking too much again for a while but under control again now.

I enjoy my beer and it's so easy to drift in to excess without realizing it's happening. I had a friend who died at 39 due to alcohol.

I haven't had a drink since new year's eve due to really not needing the empty calories, I have to say I haven't noticed myself feeling any better for it. No extra energy or clarity in thinking. Maybe because Im not a huge drinker, just tend to go overboard in December.

I don't drink very often at all. The last time I did was about a month ago. I do feel better when I don't drink, the morning after if I do I get hangxiety and feel groggy and grouchy. Not a great combination.

I hope your fantastic and fresh feeling continues OP, even with a long day ahead of you. x

I haven't gone more than 2 days in a row without a drink in over a year. Lockdown really done a number on me. Nearly drinking 8 cans every day. Just started out of boredom in lockdown it's a slippery slope. Time to get my shit together and knock it on the head. Never felt so rotten and shakey in my life.

At least one can/bottle of 330ml european style lager when cooking every night. Bit more at the weekend. 14 units in all a week.

Manchester (he/him)

I’ve not had a drink since Christmas and that was only Buck’s Fizz.

It’s been a really long time since I had a night of drinking, even longer since I was d*unk.

I found several years ago that I had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and started to process my feelings in a more healthy manner. Not to say that others do that but I definitely found that alcohol was problematic for me.

I only drink Friday and Saturday nights UNLESS there's a rare midweek night out or I have a morning meeting that finishes by lunch, when I'll sometimes walk home by the pub and treat myself to a pub lunch and a glass of something by the river.

I'd be interested in how the OP is doing. He started this thread 16 weeks ago.

In the spirit of the thread, I drink infrequently and less since lockdown as I am mainly a social drinker. I enjoy the occasional brandy or cider at home.

Too often. I feel so much better after after a few days off.

Tonight isn't one of those days.

Addiction aside, it's extremely interesting how habits can creep into life. As someone with an (admittedly) addictive personality I'm acutely aware of our habitual natures.
