What's the dealio with these. How did it come to represent love/romance. There are so many more beautiful flowers out there.

Are roses the ultimate flower gift to represents your partner's affection for you? Or would you settle for some daffs?

I'd prefer a house or garden plant, but love all flowers.

I think roses tend to represent 'expense' so the kinda "oh he got me roses, he must think I'm so worth it" mentality goes with them.

I agree. On the occasions I have bought sent flowers, I've gone for colour or shape or how alien it looks. Never roses though - tight wad

Its a safe option but not very imaginative. A bunch of roses can be a bit stiff and stuffy in terms of garage bought bunches. Id rather a rose plant, a climber,and scented, and then you just have roses all the time to remind you of who bought it. Im quite partial to a bunch of sweet peas though.

If your gonna get flowers get potted ones, they last longer & may even bloom year on year with a little care.

Roses come potted too

Personally dont do valentines, dont need a set day to show i care.

Ahh but I'm an earth symbol I'm supposed to deter unnecessary sacrifices lol

potted always, last longer and of you want the kudo factor every thing they are looked they are reminded of you, throughout the year or however long they last, cared for can be years.

sweet peas are pretty, lavender is a lush smell.

btw just for ref some colours are not true colors they have been injected with a dye....found that out with my blue orchids I got for mothers day, son paid a fortune for them compared to a white one too.

There's a whole language attributed to types and colours of cut flowers. Think it's another one of those Victorian practices. It's fallen out of Vogue now, though we still associate red rose with love & lilies with mourning.

My faves are orange roses, peonies, daffodils and tiger lilies. You know, if anyone is buying....
