Does it affect how you interact with a person?

I’ve just been mooching on the forums and looking at the various disembodied parts of anatomy that are on show and I started to wonder if what a person shows or not, as the case may be, affects how I respond to the comments.

Am I more likely to skate over a comment from an erect male member or a picture of full coitus? Will I accept a serious comment from a butt plug?

So dear fabbers, does an avatar affect your interactions and to what degree does your avatar influence that of others with yourself?

This interests me........

I laugh like a drain when people chastise me for being a silhouette and suggest that I must be hiding something or hiding from something..... Do they really think that a close up of their arsehole , fanny or tattoo is representative of them any more than a non pic such as mine ? Why don't you have a picture! shouts the disembodied fat tits that could be anyone's fat tits...

Yes. I very much take into account the images that I can see..... unless their written word tells me otherwise.

Half the time when I look at avatars I just think ...... wtf is that ? Sometimes it takes ages to work out.

I can’t bring myself to get into an argument about quantum physics with a limp cock, no matter how valid his arguments are on string theory. Now, if the cock had a lab coat and glasses on then that’s a totally different (dark) matter.

This pretty much answered every connotation of the OP that I thought might be responded!

So you respond in the same manner? What about if it’s a large erection on a thread about women’s rights?

That’s interesting. Will you respond in the same manner though or do you think that you’re more likely to give short shrift to an avatar that you don’t want to see?

I tend to avoid the profiles that are just a massive dick, but it doesn’t mean I won’t talk to them on here.

I do prefer the creatives ones though, it’ll tempt me into having a look at their profile.

For me I’m not responding to the person but more the comment, so the tone and message wouldn’t change based on an avatar picture

Makes no difference to me. I probably don’t take any notice of the avatar when responding to a comment on a thread. In fact I don’t. It wouldn’t change what I said at all.

Depends. Sometimes I do love seeing a gapping anus if the person name is 'gappingAnus' but if the person name is a random John274217 I am a bit upset for the lack of correlation between profile picture and fab name.

As has been said on other threads about avatars, it is your ‘shop window’ (thanks GM!) and to me, an avatar can say a lot about the person/people behind it, even more so the profile but in certain cases I do find it hard to respond evenly to gratuitous images than to more ambiguous ones. Certainly on first encounters

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

The way I respond to a comment on a thread doesn't change with the avatar. Unless it's a photo challenge or the like, obviously. I might roll my eyes a little if it's an avatar of a penis making a comment that makes me think "cock", or a pair of boobs that makes me think "tit", but by the time I've actually taken in the avatar I've probably already written a response anyway, so my reaction to the photo will come afterwards.

A lot of the time I comment on threads I don’t even look who’s posted it to be honest, so no not really. If I disagree I wouldn’t not say because it’s a friend or I like that person. I think most of us are adult enough to not take things personally here (well the people I’m close to are anyway). The only time it would perhaps change is if I was being sarcastic. I do have a sarcastic sense of humour sometimes and I tend to know who gets it and who doesn’t so in that respect it may change my wording.

Somewhere in Co. Down

On the forums I don't really care what the avatar is.

But yes in messages I tend to take more more notice. A blank avatar and blank bio will definitely put me off answering.Close up intimate pics wouldn't be high on my list of favourites but people can use whatever they feel comfortable with it shouldn't matter what others think really.

Not sure but perhaps maybe ... who know ..?

For example I have a dislike of soft hairy , resting on the stomach dick pics . I think they’re massively unflattering. I don’t recall ever having any sort of interaction with a profile that sports that type of avatar . So probably maybe unconsciously and possibly unfairly the avatar affect my perception of the person behind it

Not once interaction has started but it may have an impact on it starting. Only a “may” because I prefer words to pictures generally.

If there are no words and no picture then it’s a nonstarter

I think that this type of bias is completely understandable, especially as you say; if we don’t like the image

I tend to find that I’m the same.

When I returned recently, I found a lot of profiles/pictures that I was unfamiliar with and found myself responding with a degree of bias based upon if I liked or disliked the image alongside my reactions to their comments

Amusing thread!

I just find it odd talking to headless people regardless.... Says the headless woman.

The more graphic the pic the less inclined I am to respond on messages. Not sure if I'm the same in the forums... Depends on the thread, subject and comment I guess. I don't think the pic makes a difference.

Headless people is one of the weird aspects of fab interactions in general, agreed. I sometimes feel that I’m talking to that particular part of their anatomy

.

I think most people have some sort of bias when it comes to responding to people on the forum, whether that's based on an avatar, a friendship, perceived hotness etc.

I'm more likely to not respond to a post if there's a particularly photo because I'm a bit of a judgemental dick. I have tried to be more inclusive in replies but my general commenting is down and sometimes I get the squick factor, fairly or not.

I’m not sure if it’s unfair to not respond on the basis of their pictures though. There’s a lot of choice regarding them and I think that having a bias, especially on some topics, is to be expected.

Is it unfair to not want to have a chat with an angry phallus about women’s rights?
