I received a lovely one for Mother's Day but the scents are overpowering and make me sneeze.

Anyone got any recommendations for light fragrances that don't smell like toilet cleaner?

Ankh Morpork

I like the sweet smells. I usually use Yankee candle melts. Get them from Asda or the Yankee candle store. Don’t like any of the floral ones. Smell like toilet cleaner to me. Use the fruit or vanilla ones usually

i have my burners on all day every day!

especially when i'm having a bad day, fragrance can really change my mood.

my pal sells them, and i couldn't be without

Currently have a pink sugar one on downstairs, and a banana one upstairs!

I've yet to try all the different whiffs but I do like strong smelling stuff.

Yes, it runs on electricity and it's so pretty. A bulb heats a glass plate with the wax melt on.

If only I liked the scents

I might not be the best at giving advices here because I like strong smells, but try Yankee Candle wax melts called Wedding Day. That one is quite subtle.

I have Midnight Jasmine candle burning at the moment and my all time favourite is from Christmas edition called Red Apple Wreath...can't get enough of it(all from Yankee Candle btw).

I get most of mine from the internet usually perfume or nice aftershave scents , do like the Yankee candle ones though the black cherry is lush and makes the whole house smell nice.

In the middle

I make my own candles so it’s easier to get oils and make a fragrance that is subtle and not too overpowering as I like them to burn for most of the evening, vanilla & coconut is a firm favourite

I just found some Myrrh and Tonka ones on Amazon. Hopefully they smell like the perfume.

I go nose blind in shops when I'm sniffing fragrances.

Yeah me too! I get overexcited then can’t smell a thing! I have a couple of local independent ladies that make my wax melts and candles so I have a constant supply and they can recommend what I’d like.

I don’t use them but burn essential oil in water in a regular burner or vaporiser , you can go as low as 1-2 drops.

I am an experienced aromatherapist so can advise but need to know are you burning for sleep, relaxation, anxiety, energy, concentration, creativity, healing etc they are all different oils and concentrations depending on why you burn them

It’s definitely worth dropping her a message and telling her what kind of undertones you like and what you don’t like, it’s very trial and error but I have a definite style when it comes to scent and I have lots of choice.

Yankee Candle clean cotton or baby powder are both great neutral fragrances.

I like bergamot or citrus oil melts, ylang ylang and occasionally cherry blossom. I can't stand vanilla, anything too sweetly fruity (mango, peach or berry make me feel ill after a few minutes).

Funny you should say that. Yankee Candles' Cherry Blossom is so strong and sweet that I can't burn it for longer than an hour or two, however Red Raspberry I used to have on all day without any issue. I also can't stand the very sweet scents though, mostly vanilla or other "cake" scented candles.

I didn't realise Yankee did cherry blossom, I bought a load at a market ages ago, no brand name. Not a huge amount of perfume to them but what there is is pretty.

I'll know to swerve the Yankee ones though, cheers!

I find the scents very relaxing usually. Put one on in the evening, let the light dance around and the perfume fills the room and I can feel my shoulders relax and a general feeling of serenity descends.
