John Lennon sang,

"Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace."

Would we all be better off if the concept of various landmasses being given separate names and belonging to a certain group of people was abolished and just looked upon as one planet with no borders belonging to everyone?

And would we have a more united human race if religion was phased out and replaced by a unifying set of rules based on what is right and wrong?

Probably but you're taking human nature out of the equation

Religion is a man made thing. If it didn't exist something else would by a different name

Like I said replace religion with a set of rules/laws for the benefit of everyone.

I'm an old cynic. I don't believe such a proposition is achievable

There's an episode of south park where everyone has become athiest but different branches of atheism end up going to war with each other. I think it's a pretty accurate reflection of humanity.

Are we doomed as a race to always be divided and at war with each other?

Potentially. Apparently we were the most violent species of early human and there's even some suggestion that it's why we're the only surviving one.

So the reason we've survived as a species is because as a species we're intent on destroying one another.

I think it's an unrealistic scenario.

You would still need some sort of government, and it would have to be a single world government which would be impossible to manage and would be unrepresentative. If countries didn't exist, people would create them.

There's a theory we fought and killed off other early human species. Apparently we have an innate fear of faces that look too human but aren't "us" and it's why we make cartoon humans look so unnatural. Now we've turned that fear of "similar but other" onto ourselves. Formed tribes and fight among ourselves.

It states in the first message that rules would need to be put in place.

Would the implementation of a set of rules just not be another type of religion? Religion's have different factions which, in some cases, go on to discriminate against the others and even war because of it. I think if you were to have a set of rules things would go the same way as it's human nature to try and bend rules to suit each others needs/wants.

Unless you could construct something that covered every single base (which I think would be impossible) I think your set of rules would inadvertently end up creating another religion like construct.

I like the idea but unfortunately I think it is something which will stay in people's imaginations.
