Ring - when she crawls out of the tv is class.

And the transformation scene in American Werewolf still looks great today.

For the top spot I would have to go with Stanley Kubricks, The Shining. A fundimental film and what i would call one of the most influnetial horror films to have come out. Although its not terrifying as your typical horror films of today, it is certainly scary and leaves you with confusion. It gets more intriguing when you delve deep into the back story of the film.

Blair Witch project. In the context of when it was released, it was terrifying (especially as i really believed it was real). It still gives me the creeps now

Dawn of the dead (original version) and 28 Days Later were both pretty scary on first watch too. Actually, that opening scene in 28 weeks later is also up there with some of the scariest horror ever. It’s a shame the rest of the movie didn’t love up to that.

The original Texas chainsaw massacre had a really grimy authentic feel to it, when the girl gets hit in the head with the sledgehammer it was accidentally real too! The remake from 2003(I think) was pretty bloody good too!

On a mooch

I prefer the old hammer house of horror, Hitchcock, there is just something about them and maybe it is just the simple fact your imagination runs wild as to what is happening, rather than like modern movies where it is all too in your face.

Teenage time would be The Fly, Omen series and Poltergist

Of modern ones it has to be The Descent, 13 Ghosts, Saw (original only), Autopsy of Jane Doe and Event Horizon.

I won’t watch anything that has children in it or to realistic, Hostel was just stomach turning and why I avoid horror movies now.

Eden Lake was enjoyable when it came out, but now that I’m older I find it a bit weird. Like, did they really make a horror movie to appeal to middle class people’s fear of chavs?

Halloween (original) and

An American Werewolf in London and

The Thing (original)

It's really difficult to make an original and good horror film now that hasn't already been done or based/borrows ideas from another film. A lot of horror films borrow elements from Aliens (1986).

For some reason they always seem to want to make a legacy of films like The Conjuring series or the Purge films.

When it was released in 1978 it was a U and considering classifications were stricter then than now, I wonder how it got through, maybe the simple fact it was animation. Three different reviewed of the movie in 1987 and 3013 leave its classification as a U. It was a movie I’ve never forgotten, fluffy bunnies no longer fluffy !

Omen was effective because it was "believable" in that it showed behaviours and accidents rather than twisting heads and goblins -

Nanny suicide off the house, mother falling off the landing, angry dogs, that glass on the truck scene etc

The psychological effect on Gregory Peck, him wondering if he was going mad... Brilliantly done.

Did any one see dracular, the three part, I think it was bbc, but might have been on Netflix too, not exactly scary but an interesting take on the storey. Mostly two nuns interviewing the layer? The one nun was great in it, "house of God is it?
